Tasty! It’s a good blend of miso and the added matcha makes it a very interesting drink! I’d like to try it sometime with added tofu and seaweed.

Gosh, this is salty. I couldn’t resist picking this up when I saw it was on sale, as I’ve tried the other three, with mixed results. I do like this one more than some of the others (in particular, I did not care for the tomato one, which was disappointing), but it really needs to be used as more of a broth/soup base instead of a standalone soup or tea. Or maybe it just needed to be diluted further. It’s definitely reminiscent of miso soup, with its delicious umami flavours, and I can detect the matcha a bit (and of course, it’s green), I just think it needs, at the very least, some noodles. And maybe some veg. And some meat. I imagine it being quite good that way, actually.

one of my absolute favourite savory oatmeals is miso with cooked spinach + mushrooms, aahhh. yes. I bought this specifically to make with oatmeal (steel cut oats), aaaaand I could have put more in. I was a little scared of putting too much but honestly, it could have taken more. I didn’t have spinach or mushrooms to stir in, so I just put some furikake, and despite needing more of the matcha/miso mix, oatmeal lunch was very good. I can’t wait to try this again tomorrow, and also in the future as a ramen base.

For the sipdown prompt, “A tea from a Canadian company.” Prepared as hot, steamy ramen broth (I know, such a departure from my cold brews of late, but I woke with a sore throat today).

This is one of those teas that I keep seeing at the top of my “oldest teas” list and keep ignoring because I don’t want to use it up as it isn’t available anymore… It’s one of the few good substitutes I have for ramen broth that is MSG-free. I already love miso, but the subtle hint of matcha adds a sweet vegetal/umami note to the already strong umami bean flavor.

This one will be a hard hit once it is gone! It’s unique and there is just nothing else quite like it.

Made a bit of a broth with this on one of my first nights in the city, before I’d done a really big/extensive grocery shop. I just chopped up a little bit of an onion into fine pieces and tossed it into a small pot along with a couple scoops of this and left it all combine together into a thick onion-y miso broth. Simple, and maybe not really an actual meal but better than just drinking straight tea, since I needed to have SOMETHING just slightly more substantial before my grocery haul the next day…

I use this for my ramen. I also have two Japanese “soup teas” (ume kombucha, or plum kelp, and a shiitake mushroom) that I use as broths as well. That way I can avoid possible MSG in the ramen broth packets.
