2021 Sipdown 51/365!
(DavidsTea 126)

M is for… Mango Boost!

Wow, this was cloyingly sweet. Also so weird that the DT staff labelled it an herbal tea… it has matcha… Anyways, this was just too sweet for me. I don’t even recall if it tasted like mango or just pineapple. It was just too sweet. (Did I get my point across?)

This is one of the first teas I’ve tried from David’s. I’m happy to say, I am very pleased with it. The mango flavor is very prominent and doesn’t taste artificial at all. To me, there’s a bit of a honey and flowery hint to it, but it just added to the amazing mango taste. I kept the tea in my bag on my way to do my daily duties, and the cup (that had a lid) had spilled. Let’s just say, clean it out of it spills. It did have a bit of an alcohol smell to it, but a quick wash can take it all out. I found it great for my mornings. The caffeine is just perfect to get me up and moving on those lazy mornings. Would for sure recommend!

The flavour is nice and then the gawdawful stevia takes over your tastebuds. Ugh. Why do they do this to people?

In store sample which I could barely finish.

There isn’t stevia in this one though?

Evol Ving Ness

I asked the servers in the store what it was sweetened with and they told me stevia. And most certainly there was that stevia bitterness catch in the after sip.

Evol Ving Ness

Of course, you are right regarding the ingredients, so I am wondering what that flavour resulted from. The combination of matcha, sugar, and citric acid, perhaps? (Also, it is rare at DTs for the servers to be so oblivious and uninformed and uninterested in finding something out if they don’t quite know.)

Evol Ving Ness

Or are samples ever sweetened with extra stevia beyond that, if any, in the leaf?

Jlvintagelove

I hate stevia in tea =/

Roswell Strange

I suppose that whichever store you got it from could have sweetened it with stevia, but they would have had to go out and actually independently purchase their own to do so – which is very much against policy. We’re only supposed to sweeten our teas with the in house agave or rock sugar (and should always clearly indicate when we’ve done so as well, for the sake of transparency). Maybe they were thinking of Matcha Ice Cream? That blend DEFINITELY has Stevia in it, and is also something that all stores are sampling this week.

My guess, though, as to why it tasted bitter/like stevia would be a combination of the candied ginger and the candied fruits? Or possibly the apple pomace as I find that is sometimes sort of artificial/weird tasting when used in large qualities, even though it is a natural ingredient.

Thanks, Ms. Strange!

Wow. Just wow. This tea is amazing iced! I just had to get some more after trying the in-store sample. It is so incredibly sweet and my tea guide said that there isn’t any sugar added to it. What sorcery is this? It tastes like mangoes with hint of ginger. I find it weird that it says it is a herbal though but that there is matcha green tea in it.

I’m trying this one hot now for the first time; there are some things that immediately jump out to me as different from the iced cups I’ve had a couple times before and really enjoyed. Lets start with what’s similar though; the overall profile is very sweet and you can definitely tell that a large portion of fruit in this tisane has been candied. It’s lots of mango, similar to the mango gummy candies I buy from the Chinese sweets section of my local grocery store, but also juicy lychee and hints of ripe apple too. The big difference is the ginger; I didn’t find it discernible at all in the iced cup of tea but here in this hot cup it’s quite the flavor force! I wouldn’t go so far as to say I don’t like it or that it ‘burns’ but it definitely has some heat to it. It’s a nice contrast though to an otherwise quite sweet and fruity profile; but I do like this one iced better than hot and I’d be lying if I said that it wasn’t at least partially because this tastes like ginger heavy iced.

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts regarding the teas, and not the company’s.
