Calling all matcha lovers! This is our creamiest, sweetest, most delicate matcha yet. Hailing from the world-renowned tea gardens in Nishio, Japan, it was made only the finest, most tender leaves possible – from the most flavourful harvest of the year. And before it was painstakingly stone ground, even the tiniest leaf veins were removed. The result? A bright emerald, smooth-drinking matcha fit for an emperor.

DavidsTea is a Canadian specialty tea and tea accessory retailer based in Montreal, Quebec. It is the largest Canadian-based specialty tea boutique in the country, with its first store having opened in 2008.
This is my favourite matcha. It is a vibrant green colour, and it’s very finely milled. It has a high content of antioxidants. Also, a Davidstea tea guide once told me that it has approx 4x the amount of antioxidants that their flavoured ones do. The tea has a very bold and rich flavour. It’s very full bodied and earthy. I think that it really gives me a boost of energy and focus. I often mix it with my flavoured matchas. Even if it’s too much for you to drink straight up, I think it would be a great additive to smoothies and other stuff. I personally put about 1/2 a teaspoon into oatmeal and it’s incredibly delicious.
Flavors: Earth, Grass, Tannic, Umami, Vegetal
I love matcha, and I was happy to use a ton of built up points on this, since it is such an expensive tea. However, I was disappointed by how clumpy it turns out when steeping, and also that the flavour profile is not quite what i was expecting. If I had tasted it first I would have saved the points for something else.
I have tried it both hot and iced (as a latte), and I have used both traditional whisking and the davidstea matcha maker. I prefer it as a sweetened iced latte, personally, as without sweetener it is overwhelmingly earthy/grassy. Overall it is just lackluster for the price. If it were cheaper I would be much quicker to recommend it.
Also, the flavour is not as creamy as I was hoping for, and has a very unusual (but subtle) sour note to it.

Hello! I recommend buying a fine sieve/sifter and sifting it before it goes into your mug! It takes away almost all the clumps. Also, 3 tsp seems like a lot for one cup, which is why you might find it overwhelming. :)
i really like strong matcha shots normally, and i also do sift my matcha before using it, but thank you for trying to help me enjoy it more.
i think that this matcha just isn’t my… cup of tea ;)
Was this matcha bought at a David’s store or ordered online?
They raised the price of their matcha as well.
Overall, I was happy with this matcha, when I was a beginner. I will have to try it agaun to see what my opinion of it is.
Ps Have you found a good culinary matcha for your lattes?
I really like the matcha on matchaoutlet for everyday lattes… they have like a million different flavours, and their pure is pretty good too. (i like mildly sweet, grassy matcha). Do you have a different recommendation? :)
No recommendation for culinary matcha, here yet. I drink one for lattes that is second picked tea. Mostly, because I want to drink milk.
I’m not really into flavoured matcha. The blueberry one from David’s Tea was amazing though.

The colour of the powder is a nice green. It froths up decently and the colour in the bowl is dark green with a lighter shade of froth. The aroma is good, as well.
$25 for 50 grams makes it a good value.
I add sugar to my matcha. Otherwise, I drink it in the traditional manner.
My only real problem is the fact that matcha from David’s Tea sits in a big can and all their employees reach into that can everytime someone orders a drink. This means that it’s not as hygenic. Static electricity also builds up. You can see the little balls in the package. I always sift before making each cup.
This is a good choice for novice drinkers, as well.

Its earthy, creamy, and just perfect. One of the better matchas I have tried.

I have yet to prepare this well, but it is a lovely tea! I LOVE IT!
I’ve used it mostly as an ingredient for a bubble tea like drink instead of straight, but it’s flavour is so great!
Even though it’s probably a bad idea for the lifespan of the tea, I really enjoy opening the canister to look at the lovely colour and smell it (I loooove green tea). Although if you do that, please be careful, as it is fine powder and I shook it a bit by accident one time and inhaled a bit of the tea.
The colour is beautiful, the texture is silky smooth and the flavour is wonderful. One of my favourite green teas ever and I will repurchase.
I find I am very sensitive to caffeine and l-theanine, so I don’t drink green tea as often as I would like. I find it can make me feel wonderfully relaxed and sleepy, which can be great, but not always the best if I want to stay feeling alert and awake XD.
I don’t have a proper whisk (used a large metal one) so that might affect this review but: pleasant drinking it straight, a little grassy with no bitterness. It’s my first foray into straight matcha that’s not in ice cream form though, so it’s not as “sweet, creamy, delicate” as the description would have you think. But that’s just my beginner’s palate not appreciating this yet?
Mixes well into a latte… that’s probably how I’ll drink this.
P.S. Drink it soon after you make it! Again, probably an issue to do with lack of a matcha whisk but the matcha clumps back out of solution and sits at the bottom if you leave it alone.

I’ve been treated to ceremonial matcha before and this is a fine matcha for its price range.
Smooth, very low astringency. I have suffered reflux from low-grade matcha on an empty stomach before – never with this grade from Davids Tea. Only slightly higher in cost than Davids Tea Matcha Matsu – sniff them both, you’ll notice a huge gap in quality.
