Earl of Chocolate (Formerly The Earl's Valentine)

I loved this tea. Like, kicked myself for buying a half ounce sample to try instead of two ounces. The chocolate adds sweetness and a bit of earthy depth and the bergamot pops in a really lovely way. This tea makes me want to run out and get some Earl Grey. Yum!

I picked up 25 g of this tea in the heart tins as a part of the Valentine’s Day Collection. I knew that since the tea had roses in it, the odds of me liking it were slim. I was pleasantly surprised and ended up liking this tea a lot more than I thought I would. I think that the chocolate helped to balance out the rose flavour that could have been much more overpowering than it was. All in all, I finished my tin but I will likely not be repurchasing this tea as I can’t see myself being able to drink a lot of it.

I seem to be on a chocolate/Valentines tea kick right now. This one smells incredibly good – it must be the chocolate liqueur, though the scent reminds me of Baileys almost. The tea brews up lighter than I normally care for in black teas, but it’s pretty standard for DT’s blends unfortunately. The first flavour that hits my tongue is the chocolate liqueur, sweet and decadent followed by the tang of the bergamot. The rose notes are quite subtle and most noticeable as an aftertaste.

A really enjoyable tea, despite some shortcomings, and it’s good for drinking in the afternoon when you want something a little lighter that will still give you a caffeine boost.

Ahh, my first tea at a brick-and-mortar DAVIDsTEA. I loved this. It has the wonderful bergamont hint like any good earl grey, but instead of being the prominent flavor, it hides in the back to remind you that this is the EARL’s Valentine. The chocolate and roses are just divine. It felt like such a treat, I wish I had more money to buy a full sized tin, rather than the little heart-shaped tin (which is pretty sweet on its own).

I like this tea, but I don’t taste any chocolate whatsoever. It’s just a nice cup of Earl Grey to me.

I’m not a big fan of earl grey, hence this is one of the only ones I’ll drink. I didn’t like it at first but I think its growing on me, especially as a latte. I like roses and I like chocolate, so I gave it another try. Despite the taste of earl grey – bergamot (which I hate), it’s actually not too bad, and I will enjoy it occasionally (around valentines mostly) with some sugar as a hot latte. I might even get a bit more this year when it returns.

Lot of cream, carob/chocolate, slightly bitter bergamot oil. The rose doesn’t come through as much as I hoped it would, but it was still a nice cup of black tea with milk.

Oh god, this tea tastes horrible and has the worst aftertaste I’ve had from a tea. Normally I don’t much like early grey to begin with, but I love chocolate so I thought it might be alright. Plus I’m a sucker for limited/seasonal teas. But no!! Awful! Literally not my cup of tea!!

When I brewed this I actually had someone ask who had cheap advent chocolate. The taste is just off to me. A strong carob taste blocks out all the other notes.

Usually I’m not a fan of carob, but thankfully The Earl’s Valentine tastes like earl grey tea with chocolate melted in it. It’s not my favorite, but it’s pretty tasty. I got a 50g bag from my boss who bought it thinking she’d love it but in fact the taste made her feel nauseous. I drink it in the morning with my breakfast. I’d recommend it to anybody who enjoys earl grey tea.
