From DAVIDsTEA

Crowning glory

With their exotic, golden flavour and dramatic spiky crown, pineapples are clearly the king of the fruit world. Their original name was “Ananas,” from the Tupi word for “excellent fruit” – we couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Here we blend big pieces of pineapple with Tie Kwan Yin oolong tea, for the perfect balance of fresh, fruity and floral. The result? A bright, refreshing blend that’s equally amazing hot or iced. Trust us – it’s like drinking a cup of sunshine.

Ingredients: Hand-rolled Ti Kwan Yin oolong, pineapple, apricot.

I’ve been wanting to try this tea for awhile, and finally got to in a tea swap. I’ve got to say, I’m really liking this one- it tastes like a tropical vacation in a cup! (and if you can’t travel anytime soon, this might be the next best option!). The dry leaf scent is absolutely divine- fresh, juicy pineapple and a little nudge of apricot with a smooth oolong base. The flavor consists primarily of bold splashes of pineapple, with mild floral notes rounding it out. I can just barely detect the apricot, but I’m okay with that. This is a lighter tea, so I probably wouldn’t drink it in the winter, but I could totally see it happening in the warmer months. Thanks Lovelylotus for providing me with a sample!

I’m really starting to like this one. Unfortunately, I’m halfway done with my 2nd sample sachet and then I’m out. My office has been freezing during the summer and I have constant allergies so a nice mug of hot tea is lovely especially when it tastes like dried and sweetened pineapple. I used half the leaves for this mug as I used the full 5gram sample for the last one and it’s just as tasty.

This is one of the samples I received on my first Davids Tea order. Before saying anything else I have to say that after opening the package my expectations were very high. The packaging, care and details were simply outstanding, so I expect my teas to taste as good (or more) than the rest of the experience.

Now, on to my review. The dry smell just out of the bag is delicious… Once brewed the fast is there, between the milt layers of oolong you can perfectly taste fresh pineapple. In one word, impressed. in two words, impressed and delicious!

EDIT: Second steeping… sweetness came from somewhere, still creamy, now with a new pineapple sweetness. YUMMY YUMMY!

This tea has a very mild taste. I was almost surprised by how mild it is. The fruit lends the tea a sweetness (with the pineapple hint most predominant), with the oolong flavour just barely there underneath. Quite honestly, I think this tea masters the art of being a “sweet nothing”.

That being said, I think I’ll make this in a pot next time. I did it in a teabag as a single serving, but I feel almost as if I’m doing the leaves a disservice, since they are whole and could do with the room to expand. The boiling water and ice cube method, however, seems to have done well by this tea, and I will use that again.

EDIT: I just had a second, longer steep with the same teabag I made earlier. YUM.

I’m still an oolong newbie but I’m finding myself drawn to these lovely teas. This one was an unexpected purchase after a friendly clerk at a DAVIDs Tea shop recommended it.

The first thing that struck me was the fragrance of dried pineapple. I love pineapple! Even dried it has a juicy quality that makes me feel it’s dripping down my chin. After steeping, the pineapple fragrance was still pronounced but when I sipped the tea its flavor was more subtle than I expected.

I re-steeped the leaves for a second cup of tea and the pineapple flavor was more toned down but still tasty. I enjoy this tea and agree with some other posters’ comments that it seems to be more of a Spring/Summer tea than an Autumn/Winter one. I have to admit I probably would only buy this tea again if I had a coupon or discount, but that says more about my budget than the quality and flavor of this tea.

This now holds the position as my favourite ‘fruity’ oolong. Honestly, pineapple and oolong sounded weird to me, so I picked up a 10g sample to try. I got one large (probably 12 oz) cup out of the 10g.

The first steep smelled amazing. The pineapple was definitely present. It didn’t have the artificial taste some fruit-flavoured teas have. The oolong used worked well with the pineapple and apricot.

Second steep wasn’t as potent. Drinkable, but a lot of the flavour is gone.

If I were able to get multiple steeps out of it, I’d likely stock up. As it is, it’s a bit pricey for a one steep wonder.

This is quite good, and it really is delicious.

However, this isn’t a tea I will be repurchasing. There are better tasting oolong teas from Davids and I recommend getting those in place of this. If you really love pineapple (I do myself), then maybe you will really enjoy this!

I guess there was just something slightly dissatisfying for me.

This is surprisingly delicious. Dry, it mosty smells like pineapple candy. Steeped it kind of tastes like pineapple candy but the oolong cuts in just enough to keep it from being too sweet. A pleasant cup!

I’ve only tried this hot so far, sweetened and unsweetened. Adding rock sugar just makes it taste fake, so don’t do it the first time you are trying this! I much prefer it without sugar. It lets the floral oolong smells and flavors come out much more and stand up well with the pineapple. The liquor is a gorgeous, sunny, perfectly clear gold. The leaves are pretty too! They unfurl and look so perfectly whole. Upon second steeping, the pineapple flavor will be pretty much completely gone, but that lets you taste the good quality (I think) oolong they used for this blend!

Eh. I got this as a free sample & was really excited to try it. This is only the second oolong I have ever tried. So far, I am head over heels for milk oolong. This wasn’t bad. I just wouldn’t purchase this myself.
