I’m in an adventurous mood this morning, so I’m going to try something new. My very vocal kitty watched as I quickly brewed up this sample from Kittenna. The dry leaf aroma is chocolate and herbs and spices, while the brewed tea aroma is chocolate and licorice. Really strong licorice! No strawberry is detectable.

There’s lots of floaties that escaped from my strainer, and the liquor is a strange muddy, translucent brown. The taste is kind of strange too. I’m not sure what to make of it. The aftertaste is too funky for my liking. I guess chocolate, herbs, and licorice just isn’t my love elixir. Thanks to Kittenna for the chance to try it! Although I’m not sure it’s bothered me in the past, I think I share your opinion of licorice in teas now.

If anyone is looking for a true chocolate covered strawberry experience, go with Love Tea #7.

Yeah… this one was weird. Sounded like it could be great, but did not work for me either.

CHAroma

Yes, weird sums it up nicely. Just weird.

Liquor: Golden, with a slight cloud. The aroma is of rich chocolate, strawberry and herbs.

Flavour: Rich and chocolatey, with herbal notes hitting the palate first and quickly. A second wave of strawberry and chocolate lingers.

I wish this was available in loose leaf, I just wanna try this – that and I’m not partial to bagged tea.

DAVIDsTEA

Good news: This tea should be available on the wall sometime this week! If you call your store, they’ll be happy to contact you as soon as they get some in.

First, I get the licorice, then a chocolate hint, then the strawberry, right at the end of the sip I get a bit of the anise flavour. It is kinda similar to DT’s Love Tea #7, but I like Love Tea much better. I am not sure that I like the licorice in this blend.
Actually, the licorice coating my throat actually felt pretty good today, it would probably taste great when you have a sore throat.

I wonder if this would make a good Ice tea? I like your description of the flavor so I might buy a sample this weekend.

tigress_al

Hmm, I might give that a try one day when it is nice out. Thanks for the suggestion!

Lynn68

You’re welcome! It just sounds like it could be tasty on ice. I think I’ll pick some up this weekend abd try it as well!

It’s been a while since I have wanted anything flavoured and this should be a nice sample to drink in order to get me back into them.

In raw form this smells like dark chocolate with super sweet fruit with a hint of rich licorice. Stronger than I was expecting but pleasant, so far I can’t imagine what it would taste like…dark and sweet I suppose. Also has a very dry sort of scent, almost dusty.

Once steeped this tea is golden brown with a sweet strawberry and cocoa aroma. It did smell more chocolatey in raw form and since steeping it’s brought the strawberry forward and lost the licorice. Very different than I imagined.

The first few sips reveal a light and sweet tea with notes of dark chocolate, berry fruit with a velvety finish. It’s very sweet and somewhat artificial tasting, more like strawberry sweets than fresh strawberry. It does also have a hint of sour which is possibly the raspberry but it only lasts a second or two. Also the chocolate is dry and nutty cocoa like.

After one cup I can now taste the licorice in the background of the cocoa making it dark and somewhat smoky.

Overall it’s a nice tea but a Love Elixir? Not for me anyway. It got me thinking though, what would my Love Elixir taste like? I think it would have watermelon, strawberry, banana, chocolate and a hint of cinnamon. :)

Sipdown! 180/365!

Ugh. Licorice, anise, stevia? This tea is like a gross version of Read My Lips. I’m surprised I’d rated it as highly as I had (64), because it’s really not good. I mean, there’s some nice chocolate, maybe even a bit of strawberry, but it’s all absolutely ruined with the other ingredients. Perhaps it’s called an elixir because it’s meant to be used “medicinally” moreso than enjoyed? Either way, I’m not a fan, and am glad it’s gone. Dropping rating to 45.

Great Canadian Travelling Tea Box

This one is a bit strange. I think I’m getting strawberry. The smell reminds me of Adagio Valentines or Della Terra Strawberry Sundae but something about the taste is a little off plus I’m not getting much in the way of chocolate. It’s not bad, but it’s not good either? I’m going to keep the last sachet in the box for a future recipient.

I was excited to try this blend, now that at long last it’s available loose on the wall instead of in a gift set.

I was so disappointed. Boo.

It gave the distinct impression of drinking three different teas in rapid succession; every sip was like Wonka’s four-course chewing gum. First, a dark chocolate tea with a hint of non-descript berry. Then, immediately following, a sharply spiced chai, and finally a heavy licorice that clung to the back of my throat. The first two would have been alright individually, but the combination of the two was very off-putting. And the licorice – bleh. Just cloying and stuck to my mouth for way too long afterwards.

Will not repeat the experience. Am sad.

At least you didn’t turn into a licorice at the end

Despite the licorice in this one, the smell of the chocolate lured me in to try a small sample. I was happy to see that it hit the wall so I didn’t have to buy the jar sets.

Dry, it smells a lot like chocolate with an undercurrent of spiced notes. Normally the licorice in the ingredients would send me running, but I tried it anyway. Brewed, the chocolate is the main flavour. In fact that was all I got in the first couple sips. Soon though the licorice notes peeked out and it became the prominent afternote.

Overall it wasn’t bad, and I can see why others would like it, but it wasn’t the tea for me. Not rating it because I don’t believe in marking things down for personal preferences and/or issues.

Another tea I wish I could drink, but leaves my head aching and spinning.

I was so excited about this tea—it sounds delicious—but I won’t rate it since I can’t properly judge this tea flavourwise. From what I did taste, the licorice seemed to overpower the chocolate & strawberry flavours I was looking so forward to, which makes me sad since I absolutely cannot stand licorice in tea. It reminds me too much of Stash and their penchant for adding licorice flavour to absolutely every tea they have.

Sigh… hopefully you all have better luck with this tea than I did.

Faith, do you know what it is about certain teas that triggers a headache?

Faith

I’m wondering if it’s the “flavouring” since that seems to be the only thing that Alpine Punch & Love Elixir for Her have in common and those are the two teas I get headaches with.

Kay Kanada

Hmm, and it’s also sadly the hardest thing to actually track down and understand (secret recipes and all that…) Flavourings change from tea to tea, with no indication in the ingredients. Darn, if only you were affected by an easy ingredient, like hibiscus, that is very clearly indicated on the package. I hope that you don’t find any other teas that give you the same reaction!

Faith

So far so good, no new teas give me headaches.

There isnt a single ingredient in this tea that I dont like, and they combine beautifully :) The cocoa nib/vanilla/sarsaparilla flavour is smooth and inviting hot or iced, and the playful fruit notes at the end keep it from feeling medicinal or somber. Does it get one in the mood for love? As a hopeless romantic and a lover of tea, its my opinion that tea drinkers in general are especially in tune with their emotions and bodies… and this tea sure doesnt hurt ;)

as a side note, by browser doesnt seem to want to let me update the preparation details, so anything listed outside these notes should be ignored. I steeped according to directions, 98 degrees for 6 minutes :)

Kittenna

How licoricey is this one? I saw it at my DT and everything in it sounds delicious… except the licorice root and anise.

Teany_Tiny

I feel like I would have to drink it again to properly assess the licorice content, I wasnt focusing a lot on it when I drank it the other night. Licorice root doesnt bother me in tea, so if its offensive to your pallate maybe you would find it more prodominent than I did, but as far as I recall it just seemed to have a mellow sarsparilla taste, closer to molassess than licorice. My DT doesnt have it in bulk, just the collector vials, but if yours has it in store I would say give it a stab, I think you’ll find it pleasent. If they dont have it in bulk I’d be more than happy to send you a sachet :)

I’ll steep it again soon and make sure I note how I feel about the licorice content

Kittenna

Hmm, interesting. It’s not in bulk at my store, only in the vial thingies, but I really feel compelled to try it (I do most teas) even though it has the dreaded licorice…
