TTB 2025. When I opened the pouch, I was hit with a smell that smelled convincingly like rootbeer. The brewed tea tasted like a mixture of rootbeer and buttered popcorn jelly beans, and something sweet but offputting I couldn’t put my finger on. I could have seen possibly liking this tea, if it wasn’t for that offputting sweet note.
2025 TTB #2
I’ve tried a number of root beer blends in the past, so I was curious to see what was “radical” about this one. Turns out it’s a healthier take with puerh, dandelion root, and chicory. While I’m sure my gut is appreciating all the good-for-me ingredients, I have to say that the flavor was more earthy and less soda-like than I would prefer. The licorice root is also STRONG in this one, leaving a lingering sweet anise flavor on my tongue. It’s possible I’d enjoy this more cold or with a shorter steep time? But I think I’ll pop it back in the box for someone else to sample.

It was also too caffeinated for my low caffeine tolerance. It made me feel bad enough that I’ll probably drink any of my other root beer teas instead of this one. The cold resteep tastes super similar to the first.
Cold Brew!
Enjoyed this cold brew over the weekend! This is one of my favourite new DT blends of the summer, and I’ve really enjoyed experimenting with different ways of brewing this tea. I feel like, as a cold brew, this is quite soda-like minus of course the fizz. But it’s got such a similar rich, thick mouthfeel from the inclusion of licorice root and the exact right rich, brown sweetness.
You do need to be careful with the steep time because the licorice root can be quite pronounced in the finish (semi the case with this brew). However, as a cold brew, this doesn’t get quite as earthy from the pu’erh and all the roots as when you steep it hot.

Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts and feelings regarding the teas, and not the company’s.
Most likely the licorice root – it tends to have a cloying (IMO) mouth-coating sweetnees.
Thanks! I just looked up licorice root tea taste, and it seems like that is likely it.
It’s one of those ingredients that I tend to avoid if possible, ha ha… :P
