“China Pu’er Tea Research Institute Tea Seed Multiplication Farm of Puer Yunnan” has got to be the longest company name ever. It is commonly abbreviated CPTR. They are located in Pu’er Prefecture. They are a modern high quality facility with high quality teas. The CPTR has been doing research on puerh since 1983. A few years back they began marketing the result of their experiments under the label “Paka”. Taken from the native language of the Yi minority “Paka” means “Old Tea Tree”.
This is a really delicious shou puerh from 2011. It doesn’t need to age any longer. It is ready to drink right now. This tea was awarded the Golden Prize in the 2011 Yun Xiang Bei (Cloud Aroma Cup) Annual Competition in the category “Puerh Shou Cha”. These leaves are picked from younger tea gardens in the Simao area. This is a blend of mostly buds and smaller leaves.

Dobra TeaThis tea is very strong, both with a certain amount of bitterness and a fair amount of fermentation flavor. I really didn’t love this tea and I really didn’t hate it. Bought a bing a while ago so I will age it for a year and see if I like it more.
I brewed this five times in a 220ml gaiwan with 10g leaf and boiling water. I steeped it for 10 sec, 5 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, and 20 sec. This was a strong tea and I am sure I could have pushed it to ten steeps had I had the desire or the caffeine limit.
This is my first tea from Crimson Lotus. It is a rich and fairly smooth ripe. Very tasty, and reminds me a bit of a mix between Special Dark and a Dayi ripe in terms of its flavor profile. Its staying power is a little on the lighter side, but it makes up for it by being delicious. High kick factor.
Glen at Crimson Lotus drinks shou in the morning instead of coffee. One would anticipate that a breakfast shou drinker would have high expectations on taste.
