From Butiki Teas

Our Grapefruit Dragon has an Organic Dragon Well base that originates from Anhui, China. At the beginning of the sip, the grapefruit is almost immediately noticed then the mellow sweet marine notes of the green tea appear. Towards the end of the sip, more intense natural grapefruit notes produce a slight tartness that tingles the tongue. The grapefruit flavor most resembles pink grapefruit or perhaps a gentle white grapefruit. With a little brown crystal sugar the grapefruit flavor is much sweeter and juicier with only minimal tartness and somewhat resembles a Grapefruit Brulee but sweeter.

Ingredients: Organic Dragon Well, Safflower, Organic Natural Flavoring (vegan)

Recommended Brew Time: 2 minutes 30 seconds
Recommended Amount: 1 level teaspoon of tea for 8oz of water
Recommended Temperature: 180 F degrees

I’m not a real big fan of this tea hot :( I’ve tried it twice and its just not my thing. I think I’m going to like it better iced in the summer (I hope!) I usually love green teas and anything from Butiki. Not sure what my problem is!

Stephanie

Bleh, I think I’m going to have to dump out my mug :( Anyone who likes this one and wants to swap I’ve got almost an ounce of it!

Sil

awe that’s so sad. I think Raritea was looking to purchase some of this, so she might be interested in a swap.

Stephanie

I know, it makes me sad too! I was so sure I would love it! Thanks for the tip, I’ll get in touch with Raritea :)

I am not obsessed with dragons, but for some reason I have an obsession for trying teas with the word “dragon” in the name. So far I have not been disappointed.

This dry tea and brewed tea smell like the peppery spicey taste you get in a tart rind of the grapefruit. The brewed tea itself taste like a pink grapfruit. There is still that peppery spice taste that I get with real grapefruit. The grapefruit taste gets stronger as the tea cools. When the tea is hot the predominate flavour is the dragonwell. I did not feel I needed to add any sweetener to this tea as it was not tart or bitter. But I do think it would have tasted more like a sweet grapefuit with sweetener.

Very nice blend. I have never had a tea that actually tasted like grapefruit, but this one fit the bill.

so you may try Thé du Dragon from Mariage frères to continue with your obsession :)

That sounds good. Definitely will have to try!

Wow. This is just… it’s unbelievably good and real-tasting. It really does taste like grapefruit at the beginning and end of each sip, with the middle being rounded out by the buttery dragonwell. There’s even a lingering tartness that tingles on the tongue. Wow.

I am not the biggest green tea fan, but I figured what the heck, I will try it. I am glad I did because this is a very true pink grapefruit tea and it is delicious. The green, buttery base isn’t too strong.

It is good chilled as well, but I think I actually prefer this one hot.

Resteeped 3 minutes.

I opened the package and this smells exactly like my husband’s morning grape fruit juice. I love citrus in tea and so I bought this thinking it would be a good twist to green tea. This did not disappoint. The taste is much more subtle than the smell, but a good subtle. A hint of sweet and the green tea flavor still comes through. This will be a great bedtime tea for me.

I love grapefruit too :-)

I was very careful to follow the brewing instructions exactly for this tea. It looked like such a tiny amount of tea leaves in the steeper, but I went with it. It brewed up to a very light golden colour.

I smelled the dry tea and it does smell like white grapefruit. I don’t get much of a smell from the hot tea. I guess from the reviews I read, I expected a strong grapefruit smell. Taste-wise, it seems very bland. I don’t taste grapefruit at all. I’m going to let it cool off and see if that helps.

As it cools, I’m getting grassy, vegetal notes, but still no grapefruit.
I poured half into another cup and added a touch of cane sugar to see if it would bring out more flavour. No go.

Hmm. I might try this again with more tea leaves to see if that helps (it’s new tea, so age isn’t an issue here).

4/5 (see my bio for more info on my new pared down scale)

Did a green tea cold-steep-athon this afternoon, it was this one, Verdant Laoshan Bilochun Green, and Tea Zone Jade Dew Drop. The Verdant and Butiki were delicious (no surprise there) while the Tea Zone one was a case of “blink and it gets bitter”—I know cold steeping greens can do that quickly, so I was careful to check every hour and it still happened. Oh well. Maybe with some syrup it will be salvageable; my husband’ll probably drink it, ha.

This was just what I’d expect from a fruity, naturally flavored, high-quality-tea-base offering from Butiki—light, subtle, but powerfully accurate in true-fruit taste. Wonderfully refreshing to boot. I’m a grapefruit fanatic (it’s probably my number one fruit choice for basing cocktails on, my veggie analog being cucumber) so I’m very pleased. Great summer choice.

The leaves in this one are just beautiful, so long and green and tasty-looking! The smell is a very strong, sour citrus. So naturally I had pretty high hopes for this tea!

Fortunately, it did not disappoint. The brewed cup is very bright and fresh tasting with just enough grapefruit flavor to complement the tea without overpowering it. Somehow it manages to have a crisp flavor with a very smooth mouthfeel. It’s not particularly sweet, and I think that adding extra sweetener would ruin the delicacy. It’s perfect as-is!

I would very much like to make this a regular in my cupboard if I could afford it!

This one is really nice and smooth. Not a lot of grapefruit taste on drinking, but the afternotes are fantastic. I get that little astringent bite on my tongue exactly like I do after eating some grapefruit.

Got this as a free sample with my order from Butiki. I’m glad I picked it man this is yummy. I will definitely be ordering a full size of this! I love grapefruit and green tea. So I am not too surprised that together they taste amazing. The grapefruit is very subtle. This would be lovely iced but, sadly I only have a sample. But I will definitely adding this to my stash soon. Love it!
