From Bird & Blend Tea Co.

Our oolong brings all the Teabirds to the yard & this oolong is extra special as it is a twist on the traditional Japanese ‘peasant tea’: Genmaicha. Which means ‘popped rice tea’.

Thanks to AJRimmer for this sample! DAY #6

I do love genmaichas and this was a similar tea. I can’t say I noticed the oolong too much but it didn’t have the bitterness that greens often have. The toasted rice was a welcome treat for such a bitter Canadian winter day (joking, we don’t get snow on Van. Island, only TONS AND TONS of rain). The sweetness from the popped rice is really nice with the slightly thick oolong base.

I bought this during the Christmas in July sale.  It just happened to be quite cheap, so I thought I was lucky to try this limited blend.  It turns out: combining a milk oolong with a genmaicha is a fantastic idea.  This particular one almost tastes like a toasty marshmallow.  I thought I made the mistake of steeping it with too-hot water, but it didn’t ruin the tea at all, despite being half green.  I’m not sure why the apple pieces or rosehips are included here, but it doesn’t seem to show up in the flavor at all.  Which is great, as the oolong and genmaicha is an interesting flavor combination on their own.  The flavor just keeps giving and giving.  Very consistent, so I really don’t want to forget a third steep in the future.  Somehow the green tea wasn’t astringent at all, even with the third cup at just boiled.   This is a good one to have around if I run out of 52Teas Marshmallow Treat Genmaicha.
Steep #1 // 1 1/2 teaspoons for a full mug // 14 minutes after boiling // 1 1/2 minute steep
Steep #2 // 10 minutes after boiling  // 2 minute steep
Steep #3 //  just boiled // 2-3 minute steep

I bought this on sale in July because it was super cheap, but I had no interest in it. Today I finally tried it and wow was I wrong. It doesn’t even need sugar. This marshmallow flavor is so delicious. There’s a bit of toastiness and lots of marshmallow. Geez this is good.

Another tea I was quite excited about (despite the steep price tag, IIRC!) But – this one delivers! I can’t really taste much oolong, which I’m sad about, BUT the flavouring is very similar to 52teas (Frank’s) original Marshmallow Treat Genmaicha! You might actually be able to fool me, it’s that close. So, naturally, I love it and am quite pleased. Creamy marshmallow vanilla with some popped rice toastiness. Just wish, as I said, there was some oolong here, since we’re paying oolong prices!

I had this the other day! I agree it tastes like Marshmallow Treat Genmaicha, now that you mention it! I’m glad I bought a pouch just for that reason.

I’m not even sure what I was expecting here, but the description got me. It’s so good.
