From Beautiful Taiwan Tea Company

The Vu family in Northern Vietnam have been growing tea for almost a hundred years. We visited this Spring and found them to be very hospitable and knowledgeable. Their teas are grown in what is commonly known as the best tea growing region in all of Vietnam: Thai nguyen. So here we have our trademark, family farmers with experience growing on their own land located in a premium, clean area. They are really hungry to do a great job producing their teas and want to introduce their teas to the world. We are the exclusive outlet for Vu family tea.

Fish hook tea is named for its hooked appearance. A vegetal green tea suitable for daily drinking at a great price.

Ashmanra’s sipdown challenge – March 2024 Tea #8 – An unflavored green

I THOUGHT I had written a note for this a long time ago, so I’m glad I chose it for this prompt today!   Let’s see… this one was from Nicole a LOOONGG time ago. Thanks!  In that case, the flavor is still quite delicious.  Dusty gray twisted leaves.  The flavor reminds me of a cup of matcha.  I almost couldn’t tell the difference in a taste test, other than the texture of matcha would be different.  Flavor wise, it’s spot on.  I’m sure it was much more complex back in the day, but this is a delightful cup.  TWO delightful steeps.  Today, I’m also drinking my yearly Easter Egg Nests and Hot Cross Bun from Bird and Blend.

Album:  Sun’s Signature (my fave album of 2022 had a deluxe edition in 2023)

Tasting #1 – Steep Time 2 Minutes
Immediately there is a strong salty aroma, like the ocean. But there is no saltiness to taste. Smooth and deep, full mouthfeel.

Tasting #2 – Steep Time 4 Minutes
Still the same salty aroma, but now there is a salty aftertaste on the back of my tongue with a very light astringency.

Tasting #3 – Steep Time 6 Minutes
That wonderful and consistent aroma of the ocean air is incredibly satisfying, especially since I don’t taste it. The salty aftertaste and light astringency have merged together so that the tea is neither salty nor astringent. There is an entirely new flavor but I’m certain that it came as a result of these two flavors merging together.

Tasting #4 – Steep Time 8 Minutes
A genmaicha has a smooth mouthfeel because of the toasted rice, but this tea has a smooth mouthfeel because of that salty element. Its heavy and deep and enjoyable.

Flavors: Astringent, Ocean Air, Plant Stems, Seaweed
