From Adagio Custom Blends

The nights are turning cool and the green of summer is shifting to the reds and golds of autumn. Harvest Moon is rich with the flavor of pumpkin spices and almonds with hints of cocoa and caramel. Perfect to share with your fellow wolves while you howl at the moon and sure to warm you up right to your toes. Recommended steep time is 3 minutes at typical black tea temperatures. Use 1.5-2 teaspoons per generous mugful for a stronger taste.

This tea is inspired by MTV’s Teen Wolf and the Farmers Almanac of full moon names.

I saw this tea on Adagio’s site, & who could resist? It’s a blend of Almond oolong, pumpkin spice, & tiger eye, with some cacao nibs thrown in for an extra treat. For my own education, I also ordered sample sizes of all three tea components, which I’ll review individually at some later time. This was my first order from Adagio.

The dry tea smells terrible, in my opinion. Very chemical smelling.
I steeped: 1.5 tsp for 3 minutes
The brewed tea smells: well, truthfully, I’m not really smelling much…black tea…a hint of caramel..
I left it sit on my counter for a few minutes while I stepped out into my garden to pick a few things: A mix of lettuces, a daikon radish, some cherry tomatoes, fresh basil, looks like I’m having a little salad with dinner!
So the tea: plain, it’s meh, but a bit of stevia changed that. There is a caramel note, a little almond, where are the spices? Maybe my taste buds just aren’t picking things up like they should. I admit, I’m not usually a huge fan of flavored teas, because in most cases you have to add some kind of sweetener to experience the flavors. I’m also not really getting a mouth-feel of much…no thick chocolate sensation, no bright butteryness. On the good side, it’s not excessively drying either.

It’s not bad, & again, some of that may be my tastebuds. Many of us have noticed that our taste for a tea changes from time to time. Obviously, when we’re sick we’re affected, but who knows what else might effect our ability to perceive flavors, sensations, aromas, etc. So, although this may not be my favorite cup of the day (that was the Zhu Rong Yunnan), it’s not a bad tasting tea either. I don’t dislike it, & I’ll drink some more on another day & report my findings! :D

I am not a fan of Adagio – I was in the beginning but not anymore. Sorry Adagio and those who love them.

I was all set to place an order, about a week ago, and when I got to the shipping – they added a “rural delivery fee” which annoyed me so much I did not place my order. If they had just charged higher shipping and not told me precisely why, they may have gotten my order, but that just ticked me off so much! oh well for them. Hey, if I WASN’T so darn rural, they wouldn’t be getting my order, they would have more competetition for my business, not less

fleurdelily

(I still like Terry’s review though) and I think it’s good to order things just for the education of it, that definitly gets my vote :)

Thanks! I thought it would be interesting to try the different things that went into the blend, ya know? I did that with the Aquarius blend too. I didn’t do it with the ‘Farewell Ponds’ blend, which I still can’t believe I even ordered, LOL. It smells terrible! I’m still going to drink it when I watch the Farewell Ponds episode though, even if I don’t like it (& who knows, maybe I will like it, right?)

Mercuryhime

oooo, love daikon! Never thought to grow it myself. Gotta look into this. :) Make pickles!

Terri HarpLady

@Mercury – I love home grown radishes! Last year I grew a variety of radishes: daikon, regular red & other colored little round ones, but my favorite of all was the Watermelon radish! Those are awesome. I didn’t grow any of them this year, but they are tasty! The Daikon I picked today is very sweet, & I think next week I will need to start my annual batch of Kim Chi, with homegrown radishes, carrots, greens, chiles, etc. I’ll probably also start a batch of sauer kraut (I like to combine a head of green & a head of purple cabbage together, which makes hot pink kraut). Also in the plan – cultured daikon pickles & some cultured ginger carrots! They are all so good, & really good for your digestion!

i am confused.

this is supposed to be a teen wolf, tiger’s eye, with cacao nibs added for extra punch tea? adagio…. are you sure?

i smell a non alcoholic poire william. caramelized pear…. the homemade gooey kind of caramel that you have to scrape off, and even when you don’t see it anymore you still leave sticky fingerprints all over, that kind of caramel. and i find the pear to be highly specific as opposed to ‘strange i don’t get that’… a beautifully golden ripe anjou. really not random. also really not teen wolf.

taste: as always no caramel, but it smells lovely! the smell is strong enough that it contributes to the taste, and true enough that it doesn’t smell fake. always nice to have veracity over excessiveness!!

nice and smooth, tasty with xylitol and a bit of cream….. i get no cacao and no dog though….?

thanks MissB!

TheTeaFairy

Yum, to poire william… You remind me that I have received a bottle as a gift and it’s begging for attention!
Hard and rare to find true pear taste in tea. Kind of relieved that you found no dog.

I think I got this in a swap, mistakenly (on my part) because I didn’t check the ingredients properly… oolong. JennyFur is who is coming to mind. Regardless, I’m glad you enjoyed it. As for Adagio, these are custom blends, so anyone (and really, I mean anyone) can make these, label them, and sell/buy them.

this was nice going down, but has bothered me since this note…. something in it wasn’t good for me. =0( no idea what. sigh.

this was maybe the Teen Wolf (or as my sister says TeWo) tea that i liked the least. that pumpkin spice is just too much for me. almond oolong sounds nice to me though. basically just the balance of the blend is off in my tiny opinion.

Sipdown 9. For awhile my sample box has been thinning out, so I’ve been feeling pretty accomplished. The number of teas in my cupboard has’t changed much, but I usually won’t include samples that are too small to share. This morning I went ahead and added every single tea I own into my cupboard. To my horror, it jumped from a relatively manageable 85 to 116!!! Looks like I have a lot of sipdowns to do. Anyway, back to the review…

The pumpkin is the most prominent flavor in this blend. For some reason I taste a lot of maple (which is not a listed ingredient), and I’m missing the almond. The spice is a bit understated, but still present. The maple notes complements the pumpkin flavor rather nicely, so I’m really enjoying this cup.

Thanks for sharing, JennyFur!

So I don’t even watch Teen Wolf (well I didn’t, I decided to check it out a few days ago) but I saw this on the popular blends page and I need some seasonal teas!
Dry this smells like a almond cookie with spice and caramel. Sweet but not overpowering.
It brews up nice and dark, with the almond oolong as the strongest smell and spice after that.
Strong and smooth, definitely get that base oolong taste and black tea gives a bit more body. A bit earthy/wood, probably from the oolong and a slight astringency. The pumpkin isn’t super evident and brings more spice/chai flavors than pumpkin. Yum!

Mixed this 75/25 with the Adagio Cream tea because alone its flavor is a little overwhelming. This was one of the first teas I ever bought and boy am I glad I gave myself time to retry it before giving up on it. Now that I’ve had more varieties of tea I think I can truly say that I like this. The pumpkin is lovely and very light when the cream is completely mellowing things out.

This was one of the first loose leaf blends I tried, and for that reason alone, I am fond of it. It made a good morning cup of tea, though it’s a bit finicky and sometimes the bag needed shaking up. When steeped at less than boiling for about 3 minutes (or a smidge less), the almond oolong and caramel got along perfectly well. Go a little bit long and it was too bitter for my tastes. I won’t be ordering this again for a while, but it was fun while it lasted.
