Tea of the Week for March 9, 2020!

This tea kind of came to me “on the fly” – while in the tea studio and finding that the tea that I had previously planned wasn’t a possibility because I was out of one of the ingredients I needed – so I came up with this idea – using our sweet, organic Chinese Sencha & added lots of peaches, vanilla bean, freshly shaved nutmeg & some essence to create a hint of “sabayon”.

I’ve been drinking this iced. I first prepared it coldbrew, but oddly enough, tasted more of a cucumber and melon leaning towards green mango rather than peach. Steeped hot and then iced, the green tea base is coming through fairly strongly with a grassy and vegetal flavor, though I do taste a soft peaches and cream flavor that is most apparent toward the end of the sip and aftertaste. I’m not getting the nutmeg at all. It’s quite refreshing as an iced tea, but I wish the flavors were stronger against the base.

(52teas (Anne) 2022: 253)

I don’t recall caring much for this the first time I had it, but I’m enjoying it more this time. The peach is light, but realistic, and there’s some creaminess. The base is present and a bit astringent; don’t think it’s from steeping error as I was fairly careful, but it’s hard to say. I’m finding that this tea tastes best when slowly savoured, to give the peach time to develop on the tongue – sipping it quickly makes it taste like a generic fruity green.

Although I don’t think this is a tea I’d pick up again, it does make me excited for the latest peach tea in the 52teas lineup, headed my way right now! (Yay teamail!)

1968 tasting notes

I was very much looking forward to this blend, as I was expecting a creamy peach. But I’m not quite picking up on the flavors I was expecting. Definitely getting more of an apple/orange flavor, rather than any peach. No vanilla to my palate, and the spices are barely detectable.
