Tea of the Week for June 19, 2017!
Recently, I obtained a beautiful Nilgiri tea that reminded me quite a bit of a first flush Darjeeling. It had a light, crisp ‘greenness’ to it that was very Darjeeling-esque, as well as that light, fruity nature with hints of spicy tones that I enjoy so much with a Nilgiri. It didn’t have quite the ‘muscatel’ that I ordinarily look for in a Darjeeling, but then again, I wasn’t looking for it with this tea so I wasn’t disappointed.
After tasting this tea, I thought it would be perfect for a summer tea – something light and refreshing – something that could be enjoyed hot even on the warmest summer day. And what’s better on a hot summer day than a fresh, juicy, sun-ripened peach?
That’s how this tea came to be. I started with this beautiful, organic Nilgiri tea from Southern India and I added lots of sweet, organic freeze-dried peaches and peach essence. That’s all – just peach – one of summer’s finest fruits!
The flavor is a sheer delight! The peach is sweet but doesn’t overpower the mellow notes of the Nilgiri. The peach seems to actually encourage some of those natural spice notes of the Nilgiri to emerge in a very pleasing way. It’s crisp, it’s light, it’s refreshing. Hints of pepper. The fruit notes of the tea marry well with the peach tones to create a sublime tea experience!
organic ingredients: black tea, freeze-dried peaches & natural flavors
This could also be impacted by age. I got it in June 2017.
