Rocky Road

I love the aroma coming off my cooling cup… a sweet and fudgy chocolate aroma, a hint of sweet vanilla, and I’m even getting a little graham on the nose, taking me into S’mores territory. And that’s what I get on the sip, too… sweet chocolate, a hint of cream, and a sort of graham/biscuit note from the base. Incredibly smooth! A delectable cup that would probably fare well as a latte but works fine as a plain hot cuppa.

I got this one from a mystery bag. The chocolate here is super rich and dark. I’m having it with milk, and it’s almost like drinking a hot chocolate made with melted dark chocolate. I feel like there’s something a little nutty in there, though I’m not sure what, based on the listed ingredients. 52teas definitely does a better job at chocolate teas than most other brands. The resteep was really rich as well. This is an interesting one!

Samurai Travelling Tea Box – Tea #11

I’m hoping Anne will be able to clarify this for me, but I know she doesn’t work with sunflower seeds anymore – this blend had sunflower seeds in it but I feel like I recently saw it on the site without them? Was this reblended recently(ish)?

I’ve wanted to try this tea basically since I knew it existed though, so I was insanely excited to have the chance – and I absolutely loved it as well! Something about the dry leaf visual seems to perfectly “Rocky Road” too, from the different types of mixed chocolate (the white ones look like marshmallow globs at a glance!) to the sunflower seeds. Plus, adding marshmallow root!? Genius!!

The flavour is really good – it’s creamy and rich but not cloying, and I get both the white and dark chocolate notes along side a maltier black tea base and hints of nutty sunflower seeds. It could maybe be more marshmallow-y, but it’s very close to being right on the money! I want to try it with milk next to push that ice cream element to the next level.

This is the first tea from the box that I’m keeping for myself – it’s just so good.

I really like this one. It reminds me of Decadence but with a nutty taste. I didn’t get sunflower seeds like others. It’s probably a different blend than before since my batch is recent. I got a nice almond note from it instead. The marshmallows give it a very light sweet taste with added creaminess. It didn’t seem as dark chocolatey as Decedance but more between milk chocolate and dark chocolate which I liked. The blend of Laoshan, Assamica & Golden Yunnan really works well and it was delicious and had a nice malty note.

My boyfriend is really enjoying this one and we finished it up today. It definitely tastes like Rocky Road ice cream- a bit of dark chocolate, some nuttiness, and a sweetness that I would say is marshmallow.

Review for the July 2020 reblend, sans sunflower seeds. This was pretty good – although just came off as a chocolatey black to me.

#long time ago internet hiatus sipdown

I drank this yesterday with milk, which made it much more like the icecream. Oddly, same as last time, I wasn’t interested in a second steep. Rare that I find something so satisfying, with no desire for more… Odd, for me! Still, I’m glad I have another sampler of this coming my way.

Stupid sad i’m on my last package of this…if it’s ever reblended i’m buying like 10 of them lol.

Oh, this is a lovely surprise. I accidentally steeped it for over ten minutes because I received an important phone call while waiting for the 2.5 minutes. Concerned I ruined it for life, I added some whole milk, took a sip, and…?

Wow! Very flavourful and miraculously not bitter at all. There’s a lot going on in this blend. Creamy vanilla, cocoa, pecans, and malt. I think it’s the malt and vanilla together that’s creating an Animal Cracker-like vibe to this too.

You know, altogether, the flavours really do come together to create a Rocky Road ice cream experience. Crazy. I wish I had more than just the taster size!
