15 Tasting Notes
I take back all the mean things i said about chocolate teas. This one works really well—far better than Zhena’s Chocolate Chai! I’ve never had a pu’erh before, but it seems to go perfectly with the chocolate & touch of spice. The orange is super subtle. I would happily drink this again next time i had a chocolate craving at work.
My very health-conscious and very kind coworker gave me three different Numi Savory Teas, saying that she was excited about what a healthy new kind of tea this is. I was certainly skeptical about the very idea of savory teas, but the Spinach Chive blend is actually hitting the spot for me this morning. It smells like a lovely soup, and i thought i’d be tempted to put salt in it and think of it as a broth, but it’s actually quite nice to sip without anything added to it. It isn’t nearly as weird as some of the chamomile blends i’ve tried, and i’m really looking forward to trying the other two flavors i was given.
Preparation
I curled up with a big tumbler of this tea almost every night during the three weeks i spent reading Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, so the smell of it always brings that very pleasant experience to mind. I find it best with a touch of honey. I’m still working on my latte-making technique, but i find a vanilla rooibos latte even more tempting than a masala chai latte, and this one is an absolutely lovely vanilla rooibos.
I’m usually pretty averse to artificial flavors, but somehow i find this Lipton tea totally delightful. It smells absolutely wonderful, and while the flavor is delicate, a little bit of honey seems to really bring everything together for me. It’s my husband’s favorite tea, and i usually wish i’d gone with this rather than whatever i’ve picked for myself when i make it for him. It doesn’t really have a tea flavor at all; it mainly just tastes like caramel. Yum!
This tea just tastes so strange to me. I’ve tried quite a few different chamomile blends now because it helps with my heartburn, so i don’t think it’s the strong chamomile flavor that i find off-putting. The honey/vanilla flavor tastes really artificial to me. And i was worried that the tea would taste citrusy when i first opened the box and smelled an orange-y aroma, but thankfully that isn’t the case. This tea isn’t altogether unpleasant, but my hunt for a favorite chamomile continues. I think the next step will be to try pure, whole chamomile.
