29 Tasting Notes
This is my first rooibos. The smell worried me at first. It was like vanilla pipe tobacco that my grandfather used to smoke. But I was pleased with the taste. Very smooth and sweet. I need to get a different strainer because mine aloud a lot of leaf into my cup, it must not be fine enough.
Preparation
Iced this with some black tea – fantastic! Makes me excited for summer. The whole time I was day dreaming about running around outside in the sprinklers ( this is the coldest day we’ve had in years here, 12° with a wind chill of – 15 to – 20 below) yep this tea made me feel like summer was here and I was staying in to get out of the heat!! Without the black tea though it just taste like fruit punch.
My first cup was a little dissapointing. I followed the directions and its smelled very nice while steeping, but when tasting it was week and flat. So for my second cup I increased but the amount of tea I use by 50% and added a minute to the time. Much better! The flavor held up well to a little milk and honey.
Preparation
This is my first loose leaf I’ve ever steeped. So all I have to compair it to is tea bags. I steeped it Twice. The Frist time I could taste the floral notes of the jasmine, and the black tea overshadowed the green so I couldn’t tell it was present. The bergamont was the after flavor that sort of lingered. The second steep – I didn’t notice the jasmine this time , the bergamot stood out. Again no flavor of green tea noticed. So the second steep was more like a Earl Gray.
A Finum basket works great with rooibos.
Thank you K.S. I’ll have to buy one with my next tea order :)
I finally got my finum basket. Its perfect, thank you for the suggestion!
