A tea in my cupboard I haven’t tried! I couldn’t decide what I was in the mood for, so I thought I’d try a new tea, and this one was sitting there just begging me to give it a shot. So yes, I did, and it is quite good.
The dry smell is very much a green oolong scent, it reminds me of the Ginseng oolong also by DavidsTea. It has a slight creaminess about it as well. I steeped the full 5 minutes with 195 degree water. The steeped smell is interesting. It’s reminding me of a tieguanyin, but with a different creaminess. Probably the closest I’ve smelled to it is Verdant’s tyg. However, there’s a rockiness in the scent as well to me. Interesting. Oh, and it brewed up quite light, for some reason I was expecting something darker, haha too many black teas lately :P
As for the taste, it is light yet full. A tieguanyin flavor with rocks. There’s a floral aspect in the aftertaste as well. Hmm, how to describe this, I haven’t described a new oolong in so long. It is good. Hahaha, that’s a terrible description, but I am enjoying this cup, and it is going down quite smoothly. It’s not quite as creamy as a Verdant oolong, but that’s ok, I wasn’t in the mood for something crazy rich. The flavor is buttery though, reminiscent of the Ginseng oolong to me as well, but minus the weird sweet aftertaste. Oh and maybe there’s a bit of pine taste in the middle of the sip. Yes, it is definitely there, it adds a freshness to the tea that is quite nice.
Overall, a nice little unflavored oolong. I am not yet sure if it will be a restock, as I am pretty slow at drinking my oolongs for some reason, but it will get drank at least! I will have to get my boyfriend to try this one, he will probably love it, as he is a big fan of unflavored teas, especially tieguanyins.
