141 Tasting Notes
Love this. LOOOOVE. Way to go, steepster and co, for getting me hooked on this gem. Something nostalgic stirred in me after reading so many tasting notes on this stuff. I knew I had to try it. And thankfully Safeway had 1 box left!
For a bagged green, I love how I can’t taste the green tea. It’s peppermint and vanilla for me mostly, with that hint of cinnamon lingering at the end of some sips. I’ve been managing two long steeps from a bag.
I’ve plowed through a fair bit in just a couple days, all the while totally neglecting other teas to be de-cupboarded before a massive boxing day tea shopping spree. Needless to say I need to hunt down more boxes of this!
Preparation
The leaves are HUGE! Very fuzzy and giant. They really are a beautiful thing. This tea definitely has a hay or grain-like aroma, like some have already pointed out. I always have to get myself past that smell, for I think I won’t end up liking what it tastes like. But this is so light and flowery, I’m also tasting some honeysuckle notes. This is a really high quality Silver Needle tea. It may not be my favourite kind of tea, but I bet if you’re a Silver Needle nut, this will impress you.
Preparation
YAY jasmine! These are delicious and delicate in flavour, and overall very lovely. I steeped it a bit on the weak side (1.5 tsp pearls in 500ml mug), but I’ll be re-steeping these throughout the night. I’m not getting any soapy taste at all, and I can’t stop sniffing the wet leaves. This sample will be gone in no time!
Update: I’m on the third steep of these leaves (leftover from the wee hours of this morning). The jasmine flavour is so light but still flavourful. A bit of astringency is coming through now, but not enough to keep me away.
Preparation
I watched this tea flower in a large brown betty pot. It was quite pretty to watch, I must say. Tastes like nutty green tea to me, with a hint of jasmine and what must be marigold (flowery-ness). The flower stayed mostly intact with my ghetto brew method. As the tea cools, the nutty green tea flavour moves on to a more floral green. Me gusta.
Preparation
Yep, I can definitely taste and SMELL the pu’erh today. Not sure that I like it as much as the first cup.
Preparation
Drinking tea and coffee on nightshifts is tricky business for me. Black and pu’er teas really, really don’t agree with my body while forcing it to stay awake 8 more hours. But while I was trying to catch a nap before work, all I could think about was THIS tea.
So I drag my lazy butt into the office, log on to the comp, and go directly to the hot water machine (the railroad can wait for me to have my cup of tea!) I don’t have a proper tsp handy so I eye-balled 1.5 tsp. I got mostly chocolate curls and orange rind, haha. But geez louise does it ever smell like chocolate oranges!!
Steeped for 3 mins: The orange hits right away and then it’s just choco heaven. No sweetner tonight, but I also have a loaded candy jar right next to me so perhaps I’ll try dunking a mini Aero bar in this cup. Oh this is good. I hope it won’t upset my stomach later. Mint tea is on hand for that emergency if needed.
So, yeah. Good stuff!
Note: reduced rating overall because the pu’erh snuck up on me, and now that’s all I can taste when drinking this X(
Preparation
This is my favourite of the samples TeaVivre has sent me so far. The leaves are quite small, so like someone else has suggested on here, Western brewing might be the way to go.
2 tsp, 500ml, 2 mins: the taste is smokey and sweet! I couldn’t believe how much I liked it considering the smokey smell and taste. Not like the smokeyness I’ve tried in a couple pu’erhs, but a really mellow, sweet smokey taste. For me this was a pleasant surprise!
Preparation
Definitely tasted sweet potatoes, and more-so like sweet potato pie because I added a bit of agave. Just a teensy bit. But it was so delicious that way. A short steep time was a good idea, since this brewed up dark quickly. I can appreciate this black tea due to it’s smoothness. I should try it at 85 C next time instead of trying to be a rebel.
I definitely love how this tea looks in the packaging. It’s so soft and beautifully rolled, and gold! You can’t go wrong with gold coloured tea. A+, from a straight black tea avoider.
Preparation
Just received a sample of this tea. After 1 cup I am now convinced I need unlimited amounts of this at all times. Absolutely delicious and creamy! 1.5 tsp lasted two big mugs, with lavender being more prominent in the second cup. I’m sure it could have gone for a third if I had the time.
This one and Celestial’s Sugar Plum Fairy are my two Chriatmases teas I buy every year as soon as they hit store shelves!
I was bummed that I couldn’t find Sugar Plum Fairy or that sugar cookie one with the blue box (the name escapes me). Gingerbread was kind of weird, but THIS is quite special. I can understand why most peeps like it.
Lindsay: Do you want me to send you some of the sugar cookie one? I purchased it and it’s not quite my thing. I LOVE Candy Cane Lane and am so happy with that cheapie find!
I would love some! If you haven’t already sent the pumpkin tea I would trade for that one. Thanks!
