64 Tasting Notes
The last time I tried this was at school and I royally botched the steeping (both too long and too hot), rendering it undrinkably burnt and bitter. So last night I brewed it at home, where I could brew it properly.
It’s much better the second time around, and certainly interesting. It’s not a tea I’d want a lot of, or want often, and it’s not one at this point that I’d probably buy more of. I’m kind of a hard sell on green teas, unless they have a roasted flavor, and I’m getting that slightly bitter vegetal aftertaste on the back end of this that turns me off of greens. I think I’d like something like this much better if it had a black base.
Still just a smidge under the weather, so just a mug of cheap tea to comfort me. This is one of the only bagged teas I even consider at the grocery store. Pretty standard and hard to muck up when steeping.
aww man…. i was looking for that the other day at a Canadian/polish grocery store called “Starskys”. i could not find this exact tea so i had to substitute it with an “HYLEYS Scottish Red Pekoe” :(
glad you liked it though :) what was the flavor and aroma?
Just the average typical bagged black tea aroma, and fairly malty in flavor. It’s just a decent bagged black tea, overall.
I would be drinking this right now. But my stainless steel Thermos mug is being much too excellent at keeping it way too hot. I brewed this almost three hours ago. A half hour ago I took a tester sip and about scorched the tip of my tongue off. I think it’s a perfect steep, but I won’t know until the tingling sensation goes away and I dare to sip again. :)
I’m not going to pretend that the real star of the show was the tea this morning. It was really all about the sausage biscuit, but I decided at that last minute I wanted iced tea instead of hot tea, and I don’t have a set-up for making iced tea at school. I got the unsweetened tea and added my own sugar when I got to school.
Just standard, ho-hum tea, regular fast food-issue. Nothing special. Drinkable, but that’s about it.
This is likely my favorite Republic of Tea offering. What I love about it is that the fruit flavors aren’t bogged down by spices. Too many times I’ve tried cranberry orange things that started off as orange spice with cranberry tossed in on top, and the spice tends to overwhelm. I also appreciate the fact that the cranberry and orange are balanced against each other, so I equally taste both, and not just one or the other. Sugar makes the fruit shine on this one. I could easily drink it any time of day.
