It’s official, I am getting sick. Woke up this morning with enlarged tonsils, and have been getting progressively fuzzier in the head all day. Now I can feel the mucosa of my nasal passages and sinuses swelling, and I have a fairly constant feeling of needing to sneeze. Ugh. AND I have a job interview next Tuesday… hope this is a quick bug.

I got a sample of this in the goodie bag from the NY Coffee and Tea festival two years running, and I never felt a drive to try it until now. I was expecting not to like this at all. First, Celestial Seasonings is not a brand I have a lot of confidence in. Second, something that is designed a as medicinal tea doesn’t sound appetizing to me. Well you can color me totally shocked.

I am actually really enjoying this cup. Fortunately the lemongrass and ginger are dominant flavors here, along with a somewhat appley chamomile. The licorice root doesn’t add a licoricey flavor for me, but rather quite a bit of sweetness and a touch of earthiness. I actually really like the flavor combo. Would I drink this if I wasn’t feeling ill? Perhaps not, but I would possibly even restock this one for times that I am sick, including those times when I am having gut problems (lemon and ginger, natch).

ETA: this apparently has spearmint in it is well? But I didn’t really notice, which is good because I am not big on minty teas.

I’m been feeling funky all day myself, like I’m trying to get a headache & my eyes hurt. Bringing out the elderberry, just in case, cuz I have a really big gig saturday night!
I hope you feel better, & have a good interview!

Bio

I am tea obsessed, with the stash to match. I tend to really enjoy green oolongs, Chinese blacks, and flavored teas with high quality bases, especially florals, bergamot-based teas, and chocolate teas.

In my free time I am a birder, baker, and music/movie/tv addict.

Here are my rating categories, FYI:
100-90: Mind-blowingly good, just right for my palate, and teas that just take me to a happy place.
89-86: I really really like these teas and will keep most of them in the permanent collection, but they’re not quite as spectacular as the top category
85-80: Pretty tasty teas that I enjoy well enough, but definitely won’t rebuy when I run out.
79-70: Teas that I would probably drink again, but only if there were no preferrable options.
69-50: Teas that I don’t really enjoy all that much and wouldn’t drink another cup of.
49 and below: Mega yuck. This tea is just disgusting to me.
Unrated: Usually I feel unqualified to rate these teas because they are types of teas that I tend to not like in general. Sometimes user error or tea brewed under poor conditions.
