15 Tasting Notes

I have found that I really enjoy green tea, and my roommate had this tea laying around in our apartment. It has been given to her by her mom a month prior, and she had yet to try it. I decided to make each of us a cup in the afternoon. I really liked the soothing flavor of this tea. It had a very fresh, earthy, green taste. This is a tea that I would love to make in the spring. I think that this tea would also taste great iced, which I may try next time. I might buy some of this tea for my own, because it was very comforting and I enjoyed it a lot.

After learning about Puer tea in class, I ordered this tea from Amazon and was very excited to make it. I made it after dinner, around 8:30 PM. I regret making it this late, because the caffeine definitely gave me some energy and I had a harder time falling asleep this night than most. I really enjoyed the taste of this tea though. It was a bit watery, and next time I think I might steep it for a bit longer and add some more tea leaves. It had a slightly sweet taste and there was also a bit of a floral aftertaste. I have found that I typically do not like teas with a strong floral taste, but this one was light enough that I really did not mind it. This is a tea that I would definitely make again, but I would probably make it in the morning next time.

I bought this High Mountain Oolong Tea from the Buford Highway Farmer’s market. I am not quite sure what brand it is because everything else on the packaging is in Chinese characters. I did some research, though, and found out that this tea is actually from Taiwan. I have had oolong tea before, and really enjoyed it, so I was looking forward to brewing it myself. I made it at 8 o’clock in the morning, because I have found that I really enjoying starting off my mornings with a cup of tea. After steeping this tea for 3 minutes, I let the tea cool down a minute before trying it. I really enjoyed this tea. It had a very nice, light flavor. I was a little bit sweet, but definitely not overpowering. I felt that this tea was very calming, especially the aroma. This is definitely my favorite of the teas that I have tasted thus far.

This was my first time making jasmine green tea. I ordered this looseleaf off of Amazon. I have heard great things about jasmine green tea, and I was very excited to try it. I looked up recommendations for steeping time and amount of water/tea to use. Without knowing what to expect, I was a bit underwhelmed with this tea. It tasted very flower-like to me which did not seem to suit my tastebuds. It smelled delicious though, but I guess I am not a fan of this kind of tea. I wonder if I would prefer regular green tea over the jasmine. I would be interested in making this tea again, though, to see if I feel any differently.

This was my very first time making matcha tea, and I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would! The taste was definitely a bit bitter. It also tasted earthy. It looked like an extremely healthy thing to be drinking because of its color, and I have learned that it actually does have many health benefits. I made this tea at 8:30 in the morning, and it was a nice relaxing treat to get my day going. I made this tea with a traditional bamboo whisk, while watching a youtube tutorial. This is a tea that I would definitely like to make again to get some practice, because I could really foresee myself enjoying matcha on a daily basis. I ended up pouring the matcha over ice, and I really enjoyed it this way. There was also something very relaxing about making tea on my own as apposed to using a tea bag like I would have normally done before this class.
