Zen Tea

Plain jane tea.

Smooth, malty, warm, full bodied. Smells like a piece of wheat in the sunshine.

Not what I was expecting out of a first flush darjeeling. Bitter and grassy. May have been over steeped.

Not too sweet or artificial for a flavored tea. At little perfumey towards the end.

Rooibos always smells like olives. Lemony brine is my usual take away this one tastes more like eucalyptus smells.

Robust toasted green tea.

Green bean steam milk or wet corn.

Dry, warm, toasty, grain flavored. Brew longer for a bolder flavor

Wintergreen, christmas morning, cozy with a book tea. This tea is warming after the first sip. It will soothe your soul and your stomach.

Tropical, creamy, and light.

Medium full bodied malty tea. Caramel notes and sweet like a date. Similar to golden monkey.

Green, but not too grassy.

Very earthy. Reminds me of the smell of my preschool.

Delicious iced green tea

Like a memory of licking an ash tray as a kid.

If you are in the mood for a warm licorice hug this tea is for you.

All around good strong cup.

Mild, sweet. I would like a little more body in my teas.

Ashmanra’s sipdown challenge – April 2023 Tea #5 – A grassy tea

A Zen tea that I have never written a note for, and it looks like no one else did either.  I think I bought this because it was on sale during their closing (or at least, their sale for not selling teas anymore, rather than only teaware.)  It doesn’t get much grassier than gyokuro.  It looks like fresh spring grass clippings.  The flavor is okay, but obviously the nuance at this point is missing. I bet it was much better… many… years ago. Tastes a bit like matcha, a bit like sweet corn.  I was intending to finish this tea for the prompt, but it’s such a rarity at this point, and I don’t have much Gyokuro otherwise, I think I won’t be in a rush to finish it.  I wish I had gotten around to writing a note years ago…
