OMG! Dry…this smells like butt. Seriously. I’m not even joking.
Post infusion…it smells like a rare flower I can’t pick my finger on and the roots of trees…and maybe a bit of root beer.
It has a mellow flavor…almost lemon verbena esque and a bit of root beer flavor.
I have to admit it’s a bit harsh getting past the dry aroma but overall the taste isn’t bad for an herbally-herbal tisane.
(I’m now unplugging my nose – virtually)
Oye!
I can only handle it in blends. Minty blends to take over the butt. Overwhelm the butt. Conquer the butt.
Valerian is the only herb that seems to help me sleep. I saw some loose at an herb/tea shop recently, but couldn’t bring myself to buy it due to the smell! Good to know that’s normal, at least (and that it doesn’t taste as bad as it smells!). But, I’m not sure what a whole cup of it (instead of the small amount in a sleep tea blend, or herbal pill) would do to me!
I can’t stand Valerian Root, so gross and stinky… Now I will have to avoid it at all costs, it will immediately bring up the word BUTT in my brain… hahaha…
The aroma is beautifully florally and woodsy-sweet…much like Cedar?
It tastes like a sweet-wood and peach. The middle to the end of the sip is a juicy yet velvety and semi-creamy floral type taste. It’s very nice. Reminds me of a few Formosa oolongs I have tried but better!
This is a WINNER :)
With the second infusion, I steeped for six minutes. Still can’t bring myself to 15 minutes.
This infusion is also delicious, although it is a little different than the first infusion. I notice more of a fruit tone emerging with this infusion, as well as a stronger floral tone. The malt and cream notes are still there, although these seem softer this time. Still a rich, delicious cup of tea, and definitely worthwhile to steep this a second time.
Thanks to TeaEqualsBliss for sending me some of this tea. This is a delightful Assam… very different from a typical (black) Assam. The suggested steeping parameters on Grey’s website state to steep for 15 minutes. I’m afraid I wasn’t quite that brave, I steeped it for only four minutes, and I was scared that would be too long for an Assam. I’ve had far too many bitter Assam teas after steeping even a second or two longer than three minutes that steeping this for four minutes – even though it is a white tea – was a bit scary to me.
As it turns out, this is fantastic. Sweet, creamy even! The malty tones that I’d expect from an Assam are there, but together with the creamy notes, it tastes absolutely decadent. No astringency or bitterness. Just sweet, sweet delicious tea.
The more teas from Kenya I am able to try the more I must say I am a flat-out FAN of Kenyan Teas! This one is no exception! This smells slightly bready – which I LOVE. The taste is certainly robust but also a bit sweet – and sour (but in a good way), and it smooths out in the end quite nicely. There is an afterthought of smoke in there, somewhere, too! A neat surprise! A solid black tea!
Malty-Sweet-and-Creamy! This is FAB!
BUT…I didn’t steep long enough…Oops! It say 15 minutes! I will try that. I usually infuse for about 3 minutes for a white and that is what I did here. It’s mellow but tasty as well as malty, sweet, and creamy! 2nd infusion per directions…stay tuned…
I am also doing the O.o at 15 minutes. I have never heard of a steep time that long! But I’m still very much a tea newbie :)
15 min does seem extreme. I personally will never steep a white tea more than 5 minutes. I will await your reviw. :))
This isn’t smoked like a Lapsang Souchong but it’s a gentle smoke – like from a distance. It’s nice. The flavor is very good…sweet, oak-like, somewhat near a formosa oolong type oolong. I will agree this is a unique smoked aroma and flavor. I don’t think I have ever had a smoked tea be this memorable. YAY! A great offering!
This say perfect for the afternoon or evening but it was my THREE cups of the day and it’s awesome! I’m sending the rest to my Sororitea Sister LiberTEAs but the postman might have to pry it from my fingers! It’s delish!
It’s rich and malty and toasty-sweet and a wonderful Keemun. I’m totally loving Grey’s Teas thus far and this might be my favorite one so far!
Keemun Peony is available from our online Tea Store http://www.greysteas.co.uk/tea-store/black-tea/keemun-peony-china-black-tea/
It’s been a crazy few hours! WOW!
I received some teas from Grey’s and am super excited to try them!
This is my first one!
At first I thought it was a flavored Earl Grey. Then I thought it was some sort of Chai…an Earl Grey flavored Chai, perhaps? Regardless…the citrus is very nice. The cloves are just right and eventho it’s supposed to be a Winter WARMER this is FAB hot or cold.
By the looks of it, it took me about a year to get through this 125g. All year, it’s been my most comforting tea, for times when I need my favourite tea because something had better cheer me up soon! Maybe i should get some new first flush darjeeling, I do love it!
