I removed the butterfly pea flower before steeping, but I feel like I can still taste some. The flavor is fruity, but also a bit earthy, as the pea flower usually results in. It’s just a little murky and bland, not as fresh and clear as some fruity blends can be. Yeah the fruit is just a little fake and eh.
When I saw how red this was turning, I should have known to go for a shorter steep. Pina colada teas that are hibiscus based confuse me. It’s tart, but not in the same way as pineapple. The main flavor is that hibiscus sourness along with some coconut. At the bottom, where all my sugar had apparently settled, the combination of sweet and sour was actually quite pleasant with the coconut and fruitiness. The fruit was pretty fresh and clear – I ended up enjoying this one more than I anticipated!
I bought Churchill’s herbal advent calendar, and this is the first tea I tried, many months later. This wasn’t bad, though I wouldn’t need to drink it again. There’s tart lemon and fake strawberry. It is what it says it is! Though I’ve never been a fan of the particular tang of lemonade. It was decent cold, and the cold brewed resteep tasted similar to the first.
I don’t love the matcha base itself. It’s just a little too dirt/plantlike. On top of that, I taste occasional chai spices, but it’s just sort of heavy and not delicious. Sometimes I get a little whisper of spiciness, which is fun. Mostly it’s just sort of murky and meh. I’ll probably give the rest to a friend. At the bottom, all the spices settled, and it’s quite spicy!!
I’ve enjoyed a few decently hearty decaf teas from Churchill’s. The flavor here is milder than I’d prefer, but it’s still pleasant. I taste a bit of an EG direction, but it could be a whole lot bolder. The decaf black tea is a pretty nice base. I really don’t taste any of the herbs too strongly. So I’d say this tastes good, but none of the flavors are strong enough.
This smelled like red hot cinnamon, so I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it very much. The first time I tried this, that’s mostly what I tasted, but subsequent cups were more balanced. I drank this cold with milk and sugar, and it was decently enjoyable. I would have preferred more layers/flavors. Nothing stood out, and it wasn’t spicy, just very mildly spiced. The resteep was worthwhile.
Grabbed this sample from a TTB last year. Compared with other black teas from Churchill, I’m not too impressed. This one is a bit astringent and is missing any maltiness or anything very interesting. It just doesn’t have much character, unfortunately, so I added some extra flavoring.
Grabbed this sample from a TTB. I’m liking this more than I thought I would based on the leaves (not that I’m an expert). The flavor has a nice depth, and though it’s almost starting to become floral, it doesn’t quite reach that. It’s not quite malty either, but somewhere in the middle, if those were the two ends. I’m bad at describing straight teas. I like but don’t love this one.
#tiffanys2021sipdown Tea #241 overall / Tea #21 for June
Wednesday 6/16 — Churchill’s Teas African Sunrise cold brew pitcher. In theory this would be ideal for me because it’s a sencha green tea base with raspberry, lemon, and rose petals. I love green teas and I love fruity teas. I do not however like rose/floral and this is what it turned out to be, no signs of fruit. I guess my package in a sipsby box (not even sure from when since I got them regularly for like 2-3 years but now I just get a few a year) just did not give me that. No worries can’t like or love them all.
