10 Tasting Notes
This is not real Dancong.
Preparation
If you are going to make such a bold statement, it would be more credible if you gave reasons to back it up. Dan Cong literally means the leaves come from a single bush. Dan Congs are semi-wild and grow randomly and independently. My understanding is that taste can vary depending on the harvest, grade, season, elevation, and other factors. Verdant is a pretty credible company, so I will not take the word of someone that doesn’t back up their criticism.
I really like Nan Nuo mountain tea, and I am also a big fan of Douji. Lucky for me, I had this tea from a couple of years ago, when they price was still ok, although still a bit expensive. Unfortunately, the current Douji 2012 teas I have seen are all much higher in price. But for a larger brand, they still do a great job.
The tea was very fragrant and floral. When I steeped it, the room filled up with a flower smell, very enticing. The tea goes on for quite awhile too. I give this tea a high rating, but for Nan Nuo mountain teas, I think there are still some better options out there
Preparation
As always, Douji is one of the better producers of “main stream” puer. This brick is not really their best effort, but it still destroys most other puer available outside of China. Douji’s lowest quality product still beats out all of the competition, in my opinion.
Preparation
I feel like this blend has declined over the past few years, as it used to have a more robust flavor and flowery notes. The most recent tin I purchased had more cocoa hints and felt like a different quality of tea entirely, from the batch I had bought 3 years or so before. It is still a decent tea, but I must say, it didn’t really hold up to the first batch I purchased.
