5 Tasting Notes
Spring break has finally come to an end. Now it’s time to return to needing my caffeine-infused beverage to carry me through the day. What’s on today’s menu? Irish breakfast tea.
Honestly, I’m not that big of a fan. Back in the day when I first trying out Adagio’s black tea samplers, the Irish Breakfast jumped out at me. So next time I got around to buying tea I got myself 2 ounces. I don’t know what happened. I may have only liked the Irish Breakfast in comparison to the other samples (blegh, english breakfast). Either way, I’m stuck with this rather large bag and there’s no way I’m going to throw it away. So here I am, drinking it merely for the caffeine. But all is well. I’ll be drinking Fire Charcoal Roasted Tung Ting by lunch!
Preparation
I was surprised by the lightness of this pu erh. Being a huge fan of pu erh in general I was expecting something a lot heavier and darker in taste. Despite that, it still gave me the same calm, mellow feeling that allows accompanies drinking pu erh for me. So it’s different, but not bad at all.
The scent is mildly earthy and only noticeable at all in the midst of sipping.
The color is incredibly dark, especially since I tend to steep my pu erhs for 7-8 minutes. Like someone else has already said, the first steeping struck me as very ‘coffeeish.’
Once again, the taste was a bit too light for my expectations. It still has the hints of earth and dirt, but not enough for me to grab if I want a true pu erh.
It’s a great tea if I want something lighter on the palate with the same smooth, mellow affect.
Preparation
Beautiful blood red orange color. It has the signature creamy scent of rooibos with a hint citrus at the very end. As a fan of rooibos in general, I see no problems with this one. However, I can’t detect much of a difference between this rooibos and unflavored rooibos. The ‘orange’ part of rooibos did not really come through, which is why I’m not rating it as high as it would be otherwise.
Preparation
I am fond of the Citron Green that came in the green tea sampler pack from Adagio Teas. When I saw it again at my local tea shop ‘Tea Zone’ I’d thought that I’d buy a 2oz. bag.
The three descriptive words that come to mind when tasting this tea are mild, clean and fresh. There is only a hint of citrus that slightly enhances the grassy crispness from the green tea. The smell is also subtle. I can only detect the tangy aroma while inhaling deeply from the top of my mug.
Overall, it’s a lot milder than Adagio’s version which I’m a bit disappointed about. It seems like it’ll be a lot better as an iced tea because it’s already so crisp and refreshing so I’ll definitely consider it during the summer months. I probably won’t buy it again though.
