4 Tasting Notes
Wonderful chocolatey aromatics.
First sip pulls you in with subtle flavor of chocolate, but more so the very distinct carob hits the palate most prominently. The mate is barely noticeable, but comes through ever so gently on the backend, but you really have to search for it.
With the name being “Double Dark Chocolate” I was hoping for a bit more dankness in chocolate flavor, but I realize how difficult a challenge that may be to execute in a tea without the use of too many added flavors.
I do have to mention, the fact that this tea is organic earns them points for sure. It could have been much easier to dump flavor into this blend and call it chocolate, but the team at Republic relied mostly on the formulation of natural ingredients to build out the flavors you’ll taste in your cup. Props to them.
Overall, it’s not bad, but it leaves me wanting for something a bit more with each sip.
If you’re a carob fanatic, this may be stocked in your tea cabinet, but the chocolate lovers may find themselves mildly disappointed.
Preparation
A wonderful play on oolong. The subtle hints of olive oil and bergamot really pair beautifully with the tea leaves. The aroma projects warm notes of olive oil and bergamot, setting the stage for your palette. The high grown Taiwanese oolong comes through immediately, with a mild vegetal sweetness, followed again by the soft scents of olive oil and bergamot post-sip. This feels like a comfort tea and creates a comforting experience. The minimalist layers of aroma and flavor truly allow this tea to pull you into the experience of the cup.
Flavors: Bergamot, Olive Oil, Vegetal
Preparation
Absolutely love this tea. One of my personal favorites.
I’m a fan of genmaicha in general and this Steven Smith blend has done a wonderful job in pulling together the toasted rice and grassy notes of a traditional genmaicha with a sweet floral rose. The rose permeates both the flavor and aroma in a most pleasant way. Subtle notes of toasted rice and sweet grass reveal themselves on the backend of each sip.
Flavors: Bergamot, Rose, Sweet, Warm Grass, Toasted Rice
Preparation
I may be a bit biased, but I have to say this tea is a fantastic alternative to the morning/afternoon coffee. The mild amount of caffeine combined with the specially selected adaptogenic herbs create a balanced energy boost with increased focus.
The earthy and roasty flavor is complimented by subtle hints of chocolate notes with a mild minty finish. If you’re looking for a bold tea with balance, this might be perfect for your collection.
Try it silverback (bulletproof) style for an added punch of creamy flavor and brain boosting focus. Silverback (bulletproof) is when you simply blend in healthy fats such as grass-fed butter and coconut oil. Truly delicious.
