278 Tasting Notes
Pretty damn yummy. Having a lovely Saturday AM tea party with my TeaFFs. I did very short steeps and this is very mild. A little earthy, but not outrageous. There’s a little sweetness on the end. Lovely Saturday relaxation tea!
Preparation
Blou (black/shou) combos of the day:
- 2014 Verdant Zhu Rong and Tangerine Shou (shou aged in a little tangerine): Super good. This had a refreshing, cooling, citrusy feel. It would actually be a nice springy tea. Perfect for when everything around is waking up!
- 2013 Mandala Temple Stairs and WP Ailaoshan Black: Deeeelish! Another good combo. :)
Solid young sheng. I wasn’t wowed, but I also realize that I don’t know what qualities in a young sheng will evolve into something amazing with age. This had a fruity apricot flavor and smoke, but very light smoke. I would imagine that would dissipate over time, but it’s not bad now.
MzPriss is a genius. My tea habits have shifted and I drink this (or a variation) nearly every day.
Special Dark combines well with quite a few black teas. So I have started trying different combos. I’m also going to try the Black Beauty with another loose shou… maybe the lincang or temple stairs.
The point is that combining black tea with a shou can result in some wonderful flavors. Thanks, Missy! You are so super!
SO. Good.
When Brenden asked me if I wanted to try this tea, I was so excited because MUSHROOMS! I love mushrooms. Raw, cooked, in pasta, on pizza, in salad, on anything!!!!
This tea is really yummy. It tastes like a lovely soupy broth, and it’s absolutely perfect for cold winter evening. It’s very hearty and warming. Brew up a huge thermos and make a snowman! Or screw that (too cold)! Just make a giant mug and sit inside by your window watching the crazy peeps freezing their asses off out in the cold! Yeah. That’s the ticket.
I’m drinking this while knitting a blanket. If anyone has partial sock yarn skeins or scraps and wants to trade for tea, PLEASE let me know! I’ll take most colors. I think the pieces just have to be about 15 yards or more. Thanks to madametj for the idea!

Preparation
I’m pretty sure I have some sock yarn that has been sitting in my stash for an age. I’d be happy to send it to you!
Haha, I JUST saw Desolation of Smaug last night so this is very relevant. Mushrooms, though? That’s kinda bizarre!
This is a fun departure from the fruity, floral or smoky flavors I generally find in teas. This brews up to a medium amber color with a nice weight in the mouth. I don’t find it to be sweet at all. Instead, it tastes very brothy. Like a nice warm veggie soup that’s perfect on a cold night.
I did steeps at 20 sec, 30 sec and 45 sec. Blended them all in one mug. I feel my throat getting scratchy and I worry that I may be coming down with something. This tea is very comforting!
Preparation
I find Gaba to be hit or miss, sometimes you feel it, sometimes you don’t, even with the same Gaba tea.
Tea friend samples yay!
This stuff is pretty damn super. No fermentation flavors, just a light, pleasant earthiness. It has an interesting astringent finish, but nothing unpleasant. I’m definitely enjoying this one. I’d buy some, but I’m trying to refrain… for now. LOL
