345 Tasting Notes

I thought I would try this tea last night because I was trying to not drink caffeine so I could get good sleep. I was on standby to open this morning, meaning wake up at 4:30am. Luckily, I did not need to go in because I did not fall asleep until after 2am.

I’ve never had a rooibos chai before, I did not notice any vanilla but it was nice. I don’t think it is something I would want often. It would be great if my son did so he can have an iced chai latte when his dad does in the summer. So, I’m waiting for my son to get home from school to get his opinion. update: He loves it! He said it tasted a little like pumpkin pie and requested it again tonight. He was very happy to have a chai he can drink.

drank Tulsi Signature Blend by La Java
345 tasting notes

It took me a while to try this one because I always want caffeine and or it did not sound like something I was in the mood for.

I was surprised how appealing the cinnamon lemon smell was and then the taste of lemon myrtle followed by cinnamon and ginger the pepper hits the back and then afterwards the peppermint I notice with a cooling breath feel. It even seemed a little sweet creamy and buttery. Thank you moraiwe!

drank Earl Grey Bravo by Adagio Teas
345 tasting notes

I love Earl Grey and want to try more so, I picked this as my sample for my last Adagio order because I thought it would help hold me over until I get another Earl and it was in the TARDIS blend I recently purchased. I did not plan on loving it but I thought it would work for now.

Sadly it does not, I can barely taste the tea. It is mostly orange and lemon flavored, flat and thin, I even let it over steep a good 10min in hopes the tea would get stronger. I think I may have to pick up more Rishi at Whole Foods because I don’t have any plans in the near future of buying tea from a company that has Earl.

So far I would describe a good Earl Grey as one that makes me grin from ear to ear. This one does not do that.

I was happily surprised when I received this sample with my order last month because it was one I had considered getting but decided against because I will always want more caffeinated teas. The lower the caffeine the less excited I get.

When I’m deciding on caffeine free or low in caffeine tea I try and choose something my son and I will both like because he is the one who will most likely drink it. I like to dream that someday I will willingly choose to go caffeine free at night. When I do have something caffeine free it is always followed with a caffeinated tea or I’m drinking both at the same time.

I’ve got about a silly teaspoon left and will let my son have for after school tea because he will be the most sad to see it go. I do plan on getting more someday. This is our first cacao so I don’t have any to compare it to, all I know is my son and I both love mint and chocolate and fell in love with this at first sip. I loved that my son did not need sugar added to enjoy it*. I’m pretty sure it is the peppermint that helps there not be a need for sugar. I felt the cacao and peppermint had a nice balance, neither over powered the other. I’m not sure how the other cacao that I plan on trying in the future will go with no sugar.

*disclaimer: unlike most kids, he does not always like sugary things and normally only wants sugar in tea that is made into a latte.

drank Black Currant Tea by Cameron's
345 tasting notes

This makes a nice iced tea. Not knowing what black currant tasted like, I thought this reminded me of Republic of Tea Blackberry Sage that I would always drink Iced at work 2 years ago. After pondering about the familiar taste and smell, I remembered at work we also carry RoT Black Currant Cardamom Green Rooibos, so I guess I do have an idea of what black currant taste like.

Each time I’ve tried it I drink it so fast I forget I drank it, all I remember is of course this taste better than RoT’s I’m comparing it to. Thank you moraiwe I’m glad to have another iced black tea option.

I’ve always thought plastic Easter grass smelled sweet and yummy, that is what this tea reminds me of. Maybe it’s the lily that I have never tried in a tea. I’ve been hesitant on trying teas that are floral but I tried this before looking at the ingredients. I’m curious about other floral teas now.

It taste pretty, I know it can’t really I just don’t know how to describe it; light, orange peel is not over powering, spring, may be nice with a little honey. I’m still not sure if it is Easter grass, maybe it is just memories I associate with it.
Thank you moraiwe for the sample, I’m glad I have more for Spring/Easter.

drank Gunpowder by Adagio Teas
345 tasting notes

Thank you moraiwe, I’ve been curious as to what gunpowder would taste like. Now I have my newbie personal answer: Toasty and Grassy, I’m a little surprised how much I like it. I know I have liked plain green teas and would describe them as grassy but anytime I read it in a tasting note, I think “ahh, no thanks” especially to the words spinach, green bean, and asparagus. Maybe over time I will learn to get excited over reading those words.

Not sure how often I will reach for it because I’m having so much fun trying flavored teas but I’m more likely choose this over a regular green when the mood strikes. Maybe I will try adding this to another tea, I like the idea I’ve read of adding it to peppermint.

drank Lemon Drop by American Tea Room
345 tasting notes

I decided to try this now because I had a few sips of my husband’s sweetened Samurai Chai/Lemon Drop. (Normally it’s Hot Lips, but I did not want to open my last pack). It was so good and for the first time I could see how lemon could be good with chai, I wanted to drink it all and not share.

Since it was already out I decided to try Lemon Drop on its own. I can’t say what it tasted like without sugar this time only that after my first sip I added sugar and then more sugar and then, it tasted like a “creamy” lemon drop. I was surprised to notice the creaminess Dinosara mentioned, it was very tasty. I don’t normally like lemon tea but that may be cause I don’t want to add a lot of sugar. I need to learn to like stevia again so I can drink this more often.

I will save the rest of the sample for my husbands chai, he really enjoyed it. If I ever get more I will try a shorter steeping time than ATR suggests (4min) and then maybe I will not need as much sugar.

drank S'mores Genmaicha by 52teas
345 tasting notes

I think this is my first genmaicha, I did not have high expectations based off the reviews. I thought it would help me decide on buying the marshmallow treat that has high reviews making it sound so delicious and as I write this there is only 1 left in stock plus there is a sale to help encourage you to buy more than 1 tea.

This taste like burnt popcorn and has turned me into a chicken and as of right now I am not buying the marshmallow treat. I can tell I could like the right genmaicha just not this one.

Thanks Eva for this surprise sample, I really am glad I got to try it.

I feel I have lost part of my identity.
I was addicted to coffee until I got sick Dec 1 2013 and since then I have had 3 6 cups of coffee(I lost count but it’s not everyday and I don’t enjoy it like I once did). Now all I can think about is tea. I do not know if this is a phase or not but I’m enjoying it.

I’m having fun trying dessert teas right now. It has helped me eat less without even trying and I have lost a few unwanted pounds which surprised me during this past holiday season.

I love Earl Grey, Earl Grey Cream, Vanilla black teas. I like straight blacks I just don’t know how to describe them yet. I have a hard enough time describing flavored teas.

Please don’t pay attention to my notes, my taste changes all the time and sometimes if I only try something once I don’t always get the opportunity for it to grow on me or understand it better.

Steepsters is the best community!
I love everyone here :)

I’m a stay at home mom/wife most of the time and work part-time at a local coffee shop.

I’m looking into knitting just so I can make cozy for my Timolino.
