It’s been quite a long time since I’ve found a rooibos tea that’s really impressed me. Not only did this impress me but ever since I got my first taste of it, I’ve been craving it again and again.

I didn’t know what to expect after smelling it, the pumpkin aroma was very strong it took me a bit off guard. Continuing on, though, the more I could smell it while steeping, the more alluring it became.

I was pretty eager for that first sip, and well justified. It was absolutely thrilling — crisp, buttery, pumpkin-y goodness, that still managed to keep the natural taste of the rooibos. This tea is the absolute perfect thing to indulge in on a chilly night of relaxation. Oh man, I think I just found my favorite herbal tea.

Looks like I’m one of many who has purchased Den’s Tea very impressive little sampler. For only three dollars it’s an amazing price; it also includes a coupon code for the cost of the sampler for your next order. Pretty sure I’ll be putting it to use.

Anyway onto what’s most important: the tea! Recently I’ve been really into savory, roasted teas and this fits that perfectly. I didn’t get the sweet note at all that a lot of people seem to have at first, but perhaps I wasn’t looking hard enough for it. What I got was a smooth, dark and mellow drink. This was a handsome cup of tea.

However, the second steep, from the very first sip I had I already noticed the slight sweetness. The roasted flavor seemed to mellow down to more of a ‘nuttiness.’ It was very different from my first steep, and that just reminds me of what made me fall in love with tea in the first place. The variations, even from different steeps of the same leaves just seems exciting to me, especially if trying a tea that I’m unfamiliar with.

I’m definitely looking forward to what’s to come next out of my little sampler.

drank Earl Grey Cream by Zen Tea

This was an impulse buy after seeing the great reviews here, no regrets at all. Zen Tea could very well be a contender among my favorite online tea retailers.

The bergamot is a bit mild, which works well with the creaminess of it. Need to be careful though, as with my second cup I accidentally oversteeped it and it became unpleasantly bitter. But so long as you don’t get sidetracked as easily as I do…! It is an amazing, well balanced tea.

drank Genmaicha by Zen Tea

This is one of the teas I got as a sample from Zen Teas. I’ll start off by saying I love genmaicha teas, but this one, to me, was special. It has the trademark roasted, toasty, savory flavor that other genmaichas I’ve had possess, but it also had a wonderful grassy, sweet aftertaste from the green tea. It was a totally unexpected flavor that I was pleasantly surprised with.

As far as genmaicha goes, this one is my top pick. I’m very likely to be adding this to my cupboard in the near future.

drank Coconut Oolong by Zen Tea
7 tasting notes

I got this as a sample from Zen Tea, and I really quite like it. From what I’ve tried, their teas seem to have a very good balance; the flavoring isn’t too strong as to overpower the tea, and the tea isn’t too overwhelming for the flavorings. This tea was a perfect example of that.

The smell of it was like a coconut candy, sweet and roasty smelling. I ended up steeping it three times, and by the third time the brew lost most of it’s “coconuttiness” but the oolong was still flavorful enough to enjoy. The first brew, however, was just what I would like to expect. Very smooth, very balanced.

I got this tea as a sample with my most recent DAVIDsTEA order. Prior to brewing, the tea itself smelled absolutely amazing; reminiscent of a Mud Slide — you know, the alcoholic beverage. It was oh so cute, quite a few little marshmallows in it that thankfully didn’t over sweeten it.

The flavor didn’t really taste like toasted marshmallows, but I didn’t fully expect it to. It does, however, taste very ‘Autumn-y" in the most pleasant of ways. The closest thing I can compare the flavor to is of a bagged tea I used to LOVE when I was first getting into tea, it reminds me of a Hazelnut-something-or-other tea from the Chocolatté blends by Kalahari Cafe which doesn’t seem to be in production anymore. Both delight and nostalgia from this lovely blend for me!

I’m fairly certain the people of DAVIDsTEAs are evil geniuses, because of this sample I’m definitely planning my next order already.

drank Rose Congou Green by DAVIDsTEA

First of all, I love roses; everything about them. When I saw this tea I just knew I had to try it. I was not at all disappointed. The taste, even unsweetened, reminds me of some sort of candy. Though I’ve never tried it sweetened I almost think sweetening would overpower it.

This is one of the most delightful, mellow teas I’ve had. Simply wonderful.

Bio

I’ve been a bagged tea drinker for a very long time, just recently expanding my horizons to the world of loose leaf. You may notice from my “collection” I seem to be particular of a certain brand; I am definitely keen on finding other high quality online retailers and it seems this is the place to look! In terms of tastes, it’s hard to pick a favorite tea. For me, there’s a tea for every emotion. A tea for every craving. From sophisticated and refined tea, to wild and exciting blends, it’s impossible to get bored with all the choices tea has to offer.

I’m not really interested in any personal exchanges, but I’d love some retailer recommendations. I’m especially a sucker for retailers with samples, and purchases that come with storage tins (they keep my tea shelf so pretty~!).

Of course my interests aren’t limited to tea, but that’s what I’m here for, so this bio will have to do for now~!
