This tea made me read the old nursery rhyme of Hickory Dickory Dock which I had not done for many years, as I age I like to learn about the history around such childhood rhymes. This one doesn’t seem to have a definitive answer as to it’s origin but it was nice to read it non the less. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hickory_Dickory_Dock (For any one interested).

Sharing a pot of this tea with my husband tonight, it’s our 11 year anniversary tomorrow and I’m going to the UK’s largest vintage fair tomorrow with my mother for a spot of shopping. Then on Sunday I’m going to London with hubby for some shopping. Going to Camden Market in the morning and we booked a table at Teanamu Chana Teahouse which is an authentic Chinese tea house that serves vegetarian food too. There are only a few tables (around 7 or 8) so I feel very lucky to have managed to book a table.

The tea mix looked large and dry, different to the picture. It has a slight cocoa scent but was very dry and made me sneeze as I inhaled deeply.

Flavour wise we are comparing this tea to very cheap coffee as it has a strange chemical taste, which we are putting down to the chicory. It sounds nice on paper (chicory, almonds and vanilla) but I don’t think the execution has worked, at least not for our pallets. Extremely sour.

I’m sorry but I can’t drink it…tipping this away. I don’t know if I steeped it too strongly or if it’s actually just the blend (which I noticed has a low overall rating). So I wont be rating this but to make me throw it away is bad, and for my husband to say he can’t drink it (and he drinks loads of cheap coffee) then I know something is wrong.

Preparation
Boiling 7 min, 0 sec 5 tsp 20 OZ / 600 ML

Happy (early) anniversary!

OMGsrsly

It is more like ovaltine or Caf-Lib coffee substitute. I love it, but it really is a weird taste if you’re not used to the chicory! If you have more, you might want to try steeping it in milk for more of a latte feel. :)

Hallo Chillie

Happy (belated) Anniversary! Hope you had a wonderful time celebrating. Would love to hear about your experience at Teanamu.

Happy belated anniversary! And I love Agatha Christie’s use of nursery rhymes in her books and titles.

Bio

I’m 34 years old from Leicester, England named Kayleigh.

I started off many years ago drinking herbal and fruit teas which over time peaked my interest in trying new types. Eventually I began to import and sample many different teas and cultures which I still do today. My life goal is to try as many teas and ways of having tea as possible.

Tea wise my cravings change constantly from pu erh one month to jasmine green to the next and so on.

I also enjoy watching Japanese Anime and horror films.

I am always up for tea swaps so if you see anything in my virtual cupboard then please contact me.

A short list to help swapping with me easier though honestly I am not fussy and am willing to try anything. Plus the notes below are usually, sometimes I love a tea that has an ingredient I tend to dislike and other times I hate a tea that I thought I would love.

Likes: Any fruit but especially melon and orange, vanilla, all tea types (black, green, white etc), nuts (any), flowers, ginger, chai.

Dislikes: Licorice, aniseed, clove, eucalyptus, lavender.

My rating system
I have my own way of rating teas that makes each one personal. I have different categories, I rate each tea depending on what it is made of. For example: I rate green teas in a different way to black teas or herbal teas. So black, white, green, Pu Erh, Rooibos, Oolong, blends and tisanes all have their own rating system. That way I can compare them with other teas of the same or similar type before for an adequate rating. And when I do give top marks which is very rare I am actually saying that I would love to drink that tea all day, every day if possible. It’s a tea that I would never turn down or not be in the mood for. So while I agree that no tea is 100% perfect (as nothing is) I am saying that it’s as close as it comes to it. After all, in my book the perfect teas (or close to perfect anyway) are ones that I could drink all the time. That is why you will find a high quality black or Oolong will not have as high a score as a cheap flavoured blend, they are simply not being compared in the same category.
