This tea smells like just chocolate oranges. The taste begins with a hint of orange, but it’s very brief. Then the strong chocolate flavor takes over and the taste ends with a long, earthy pu’erh finish. If you like pu’erh, you’ll probably like it. But, I felt the balance was off. Could have used more orange and less chocolate. It was a fun sample, but I won’t be ordering it.

What a bold, brilliant blend! This tea is so unique and complex. I’ve never tasted anything quite like it. I steep it 7+ minutes so it turns purple in my cup and the flavors really pop. It’s really more like an herbal tisane than a rooibos. The taste is sweet and tart, like Forever Nuts, but with more plum, heat, and spices. With strong apple and cinnamon notes, it also reminds me of Mom’s Apple Pie, but without the bitterness of the sub-par green tea in that blend. I really enjoy this tea, and will be sad to see it go when the holiday season ends. By the way, this tea is definitely made for HOT brewing and sipping. Don’t try it luke-warm or iced. Released Fall 2014 for the Winter Collection.

My favorite variety is green tea, but I also enjoy pu’erh, oolong, white, herbal tisanes, rooibos, and certain flavored black teas.

I’ve dabbled with Teavana, Tazo, and Adagio. But DavidsTea is where my love of loose leaf started back in 2009, and their blends are still my favorites. They had a rough year in 2020, but I hope Davids can still bounce back.

In my head, I rate my teas on a 5-star system, so for Steepster I’ve devised the following system:

90 – 100 = “5 stars”
All time favorites and inspired blends

75 – 89 = “4 stars”
Quite enjoyable—would like a 2nd cup! Might order this tea for my cupboard

50 -74 = “3 stars”
Nothing about this tea stands out. It might be an odd or unbalance blend. One cup is enough to satisfy my curiosity.

25 – 49 = “2 stars”
Tolerable, but I definitely wouldn’t buy it again.

0 – 25 = “1 star”
Can’t even finish the first cup
