162 Tasting Notes
Tea #3 of my “go to David’s twice in two days to try all of the new carnival teas” outings.
Cherry snowcone. Not my favourite flavour of snowcone. My favourite flavour of anything slushie-like is (obviously) “blue”. What that flavour exactly is I don’t think anyone knows. Sure, you can tell me it’s blue raspberry, but it’s not raspberry flavoured. Because I hate raspberry flavoured everything, except actual raspberries (yes, even raspberry pie…yuck. The seeds!!). Raspberry and lemonade, I think? Anyway, whatever it is, it’s good. But I digress.
If I had to choose favourite flavour #2, it would be cherry. So I wanted this to be good. I really did. Really, really did.
And it was! It was so good! In fact, it reminded me a lot of Indian Summer, that white tea with cherries and a bunch of other fall fruits (pumpkin, carrot, and a bunch of other stuff I don’t remember) in it. That tea was so good…I was sad when it was discontinued. But now I have this! And this is better. I don’t know how good it would be hot. It is called cherry SNOWCONE after all. Snow. Snow is cold. But I’m willing to try everything once. This tea is cherry, sour, pink, and sweet all at the same time. A big success.
Verdict: will buy at least once.

Preface: I am obsessed with caramel corn. I buy it from Kernel’s about once a month. If someone comes between me and caramel corn, they’re going down. Safe to say I had high expectations for this tea.
Expectations: not met. I think the reason why is because of the coconut in it. Don’t get me wrong, this tea isn’t BAD. I just don’t…love it. Like I wanted to. It’s kinda caramel-y. It’s kinda buttery. It’s kinda popcorn-y. It’s just…not like caramel corn. I don’t even know if I dislike it enough not to buy it. I’m still on the fence.
Verdict: may or may not buy. Not one of my favourites, but not terrible…I’ll have to try it again before writing it off.
Went into the store for the last two days in a row to make sure I got to try all of the new Carnival Collection right away to ponder whether or not to buy before my 15% off all loose tea discount expires.
Preface: I’m obsessed with cotton candy. If it’s for sale (the fresh stuff…not the “bagged a few weeks ago in a factory” crap sold in grocery stores), I CANNOT walk past it without buying. Can. Not.
Now that that’s out of the way, we can all assume I had high expectations. If you’re going to call something “cotton candy tea”, it had better damn well taste like cotton candy. Or else…grr.
This was exactly cotton candy. To a friggin T. COTTON CANDY TEA, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE?!?!?! I don’t know how this one would be hot, in fact I imagine it would be weird. But you know what? Don’t care. I’m drinking it cold all day every day. And I’m drinking it even colder during the winter. BECAUSE I CAN.
Actually, I imagine if I had this all the time I would get sick of it. I think that’s the appeal of cotton candy…carnivals and fairs. Usually only in summer and early fall. But I’m buying this anyway. Buy all the tea!
Verdict: will definitely buy at least one tin before the collection is discontinued.
Sipdown achieved. Actually, I had the last tea bag of this a while ago…just forgot to write a note about it.
As I was finishing up the box, I decided I still liked it. And still liked it enough to buy it again (if it’s still available…I haven’t checked the tea aisle at the grocery store in quite a while!). So buy it again I will! If I remember…
Bought this on my most recent trip to Winner’s because…tea.
I was hesitant to try this one because it’s a plain white tea; right now I’ve been on a flavoured tea kick over a plain tea kick. But…for $5.99 for 100 bags? Why the heck not.
Glad I took a chance. This tea is yummy. A bit sweet on its own, light-tasting, and actually almost refreshing. I’d be interested in trying this one iced. I don’t usually ice straight teas, but…there’s a first for everything. And I’ve got 99 more bags and stuff. So it’s not like I’m short on supply… :)
Verdict: would re-buy if there was another box to buy when this one is almost gone.
Got this on my Winner’s shopping trip, and I must admit…for a bagged tea, this is pretty darn good.
I have no idea what an acai berry tastes like, so I can’t exactly speak to the authenticity of the flavour. What flavour it did have was yummy. Berry, crisp, fruity, not at all artificial-tasting. Yum. The green tea base was also good; not bitter, not overly grassy, didn’t leave a funky after-taste in my mouth. Also yum.
The downside of the packaging: 25 bags are packaged in a sealed foil baggie, but the bags are loose inside the baggie. So this means if you don’t drink the tea quickly, it will get really stale really quickly. I like the tin, but it’s certainly not air-tight. I would much prefer to have every bag individually wrapped. Not as good for transport; you can’t just chuck a bag in your purse (or put one in your pocket) and run off to a meeting. Too bad.
Verdict: great price, so would probably buy again if it was available. I would also consider trying other flavours since this one is so good.
Saw a box of 100 of this and the organic White tea bags at Winner’s; bought 1 of each. Figured: how bad can it be?
Well, it could have been terrible. Thankfully, I don’t have 100 bags of terrible mango green tea to drink. Thankfully.
The smell is much more mango-y than the taste. That shouldn’t be all that surprising; we are talking about bagged green tea after all. I do wish more of the flavour had come through. That being said, it was a fruity green tea. No bitterness, not very grassy. Overall, pretty good. I don’t know if I would buy another box of 100 if given the opportunity (I rarely drink tea fast enough to be able to buy the same thing at Winner’s twice), but it’s not terrible. A good tea for meetings and conferences when loose leaf isn’t practical.
Verdict: probably wouldn’t re-buy, only because it’s Winner’s and when was the last time you saw the same thing in that store 6 months apart?!

My supervisor brought me back this tea from Ecuador when he was there on a field expedition. You’re supposed to make this with steaming milk instead of water, but since 1) I don’t like milk, and 2) I don’t have milk on hand, water will have to do.
The smell of the leaves is…gross. Almost like a mix between soggy tobacco (like a cigarette but that has been rained on) and marijuana. Since I don’t know what coca leaves actually smell like, I don’t know if this is accurate to rehydrated leaves, or if the ingredients list is lying (100% coca leaves). If it’s true then…I guess now I know what it smells like. The brewed taste was…wacky. Couldn’t quite put my finger on the taste; my friend Kayla described it as “cut grass”. I disagree, but whatevs. It’s weird. Not like green tea at all, also not like mate at all. In its own world.
This tea is definitely not recommended for those with heart conditions. For those who don’t know, coca is the plant from which cocaine comes from. When the leaves are dried and processed nearly none of the cocaine alkaloid remains, but there are plenty of other synergistic compounds left in the leaves that provide a synergistic effect. Some people won’t react at all, some will think this tea is the best thing since sliced bread. I think I fall in the middle, Kayla falls in the sliced bread category. By the time I was 1/5 done the cup I was a bit giddy, and at the end we were talking and giggling like little girls and talking and laughing and talking ANDTHENSQUIRREL!!!!!!!!!!! and then talking and giggling and talking and giggling. Neon pink bicycles are the funniest thing ever. AMIRITE?!?!
Verdict: as far as tea goes, this is actually pretty tasty. If I ever found myself down in South America again, I’d track some of this down to buy.
