On the nose it’s all cherry cough syrup. On the tongue it’s cherry cough syrup and orange juice.

I love the idea behind this tea but the execution is lacking :| Steeped it till I remembered that I was making it, but it always tastes like this. It’s not terrible, but just too artificial and medicinal to enjoy much.

The lime is very dominant in this cup, with plenty of sage to give it some intense herbal notes. Very refreshing and crisp.

I let it steep for quite a while and then slowly sipped it till it was cold. Lovely at any temperature.

Mmmmm chugging this down hot, with lots of milk and sugar, and it is delicious. The sarsaparilla is pretty strong, and with the milk and sugar, I’m getting lots of root beer and not a lot of black tea, which suits me just fine for this cup. Tasty tasty!

Oh my god, I love ice wine tea. The smell of it is intense, explosive. Lots of black tea and fruit. Fruit fruit fruit! And sweetness! The liquor is dark and thick looking, almost like coffee. And the taste matches the look and smell. Bold and full-mouth, sweet with a touch of bitterness, a bit of fermented wine, a lot of fresher fruit flavours and a hint of honey and caramel. It’s not the most complex tea, but it still has a lot of awesome stuff going on.

Ice wine tea was one of my early loves when I was getting into tea, and then I moved cities and I couldn’t find any at my local shops. Then this bag was unexpectedly re-gifted to me, and happiness! I just hope I can get more because I’m almost out, and the company this is from doesn’t have a website and is a bit of a drive for me.

Another bottom of the bag cup. I like the floral and citrus notes that come out in this cup, but there was a lot of dust that went right through my mesh strainer and has been sitting at the bottom, making it progressively more bitter and astringent. :( Otherwise, I think this would be a pretty lovely, light tea.

Oh well. Time to restock the Baroness Grey, I guess.

Down to the last bits in the bag. This one is pleasant. Lots of summer fruit – peach and pear. Light, with a fair bit of tang on the nose and a touch on the tongue. A hint of creaminess. Vegetal notes from the green tea – fairly sure it’s a sencha. A smooth, easy drink.

This tea is my relaxing after a whirlwind morning. I got up, made coffee for my sweetie, made french toast for three and then when all that was done, took the hot water left in the kettle and made tea. I steeped this cup for a cool 9 minutes, and even when I took the leaves out, they were only beginning to unfurl, still all crinkly from being rolled up.

This tea really benefits from a long steep, though I think it brews up better with slightly hotter water than I used. It has a beautiful, full mouth buttery flavour that overlays a light, nuttiness. There’s a hint of dry mouth feel on the finish, but no astringency, and the faintest floral note.

Such a lovely cup, and a lovely way to start the day. I’m looking forward to my second steep of these leaves, and what comes out.

Definitely a more complex and full mouth flavour than the milk oolong from DAVID’s Tea.

Yeah, I think we pay a bit more for this QMO than it is at David’s, but I think it’s worth it. This is a staple at my partner’s place and I just started buying it so I could have it at home because it’s so good.

Finishing off my last teaspoon of this for my morning cup. I think it’s getting kind of old and hasn’t been in a well sealed bag, so I don’t have high hopes for it.

From what I recall it wasn’t all that fantastic with a very short infusion, so I gave it a quick rinse and steeped it for four minutes. There was lots of strawberry fragrance and a hint of coconut in the very dark, opaque cup. The flavours reflected the fragrance pretty accurately, with very little pu erh coming through. Bleh.

Steeped for another two minutes and it’s a bit bolder and earthier. I’m still not too impressed, but more time made it better, and it’ll do for my first cup of the day, to wash down my breakfast of mooncake.

It’s been a while since I’ve made a whole pot of anything, but for a day of housework and cleaning, a steady supply of chai seemed appropriate.

I steeped this for 10 minutes and added a lot of milk and sugar. It’s a quite delightful, creamy cup. It’s bold and has a lot of back of the mouth flavour. A little more smoke and pepper, and not quite as much cardamom as I prefer in a chai, but still very nice.

This is super easy to drink and is keeping me going, so yay!

This was last night’s cup, and a perennial favourite of mine. It smells delicious and it tastes delicious. I really enjoy the lemongrass and citrusy notes with the sweeter fruit flavours. I think this cup was the first time that I really noted the beautiful lychee finish on this.

Definitely one of Teavana’s better teas, and one that will always have a spot in my cupboard.

Bio

I grew up drinking jasmine green tea with meals, but really fell in love with tea on a trip to Britain in elementary school. My first great love was Earl Grey, and I still adore it and all its variants.

I discovered the beauty of loose leaf tea much later, when, on impulse, I picked up a few teas that were on clearance at a home store. My introduction to loose leaf teas were Masala Chai and Provence Rooibos by the Metropolitan Tea Co and an unknown brand of kukicha and gyokuro (little did I know what a precious treasure I’d stumbled onto with that.)

At the time I was lucky to live in a place with multiple tea shops and several places to have afternoon tea, which is a delight I still miss.

Tea is part of my daily ritual and a nice, affordable way to appease the collector in me.

I enjoy distinctive whites, greens and oolongs, flavoured blacks, and herbals that are heavy on the citrus, lavender or mint.

Rating rubric, to give myself some consistency:
0-15 Yuck, not even drinkable.
16-30 Disappointing, not really inclined to give it a second try.
31-45 Disappointing, but maybe there’s potential? Worth one more try, prepped differently.
46-60 Mediocre, not terrible but not memorable.
61-75 Not bad. I’ll definitely finish what I have and might buy again.
76-90 Very enjoyable. Tasty, complex, it’ll keep me coming back.
91-100 BEST! I love everything about it and I will drink it forever.
