From Zen Tea

Organic Fair Trade Chai Tea Blend

Velvety, mellow and deep, this chai is an enticing blend of energizing pu-erh tea, shade-grown yerba maté, and cacao. Made even more inviting by creamy vanilla, nutty coconut and fruity, pungent and uplifting Ayurvedic long pepper. It is the most sophisticated take on hot cocoa.

Ingredients: Organic Fair Trade Certified™ pu-erh tea, organic roasted dandelion root, organic yerba maté, organic cocoa shells, organic cacao nibs, organic long pepper, organic coconut flakes, organic cardamom, organic vanilla bean.

Preparation: Mix 2 tbsp chai, 1 cup water, and 1 cup milk in a saucepan. Bring to a boil then reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in sugar or sweetener to taste. Strain into a mug or pitcher and enjoy! Chai can also be enjoyed over ice.
We encourage you to experiment with the quantity of tealeaves and the length of the infusion time to find your desired brew strength.

This was in the amazing/wonderful overly generous package that I received for TheTeaFairy.
I was in desperate need of energy today – this seemed like the obvious choice. This isn’t really chai – it’s more of a “wellness” tea to me. It is spicy but not really chai like, it has some undefined “herbal” quality to it.
I don’t think this gave me any energy, and I don’t think it’s a chai. Another tea that is totally named incorrectly.

false advertising!

I just wish companies would name the teas to what they actually are.

There is two listings for this tea now, so I’ll post it on this one too:

Spicy deliciousness! I wanted to try this one because it’s an interesting
trio: pu-erh, yerba mate, and chai! It sounded good! This is actually the week I tried my first and third pu-erh! You’d think that because this is also a pu-erh and a mate, the chai spices would be diminished and lost, but they aren’t! It is just as spicy as though there were only the spices here, and the mate and pu-erh weren’t taking any room in the infuser. Cinnamon! Ginger! Sadly, I can’t really tell there is coconut here. Pu-erh in general I find doesn’t have much flavor, so I’d probably prefer black teas in the future, since I love as much flavor as possible. I had this with some more of that pumpkin pie I had the other day. It’s feeling like fall! As I’m sipping, I feel energized already! Maybe I’m just partial to chai, since it was the first tea I had… This blend is really really good. Overall, I’m impressed this had so much spicy flavor while still including the pu-erh and the mate. It seems like there are bonus ingredients in this blend! It goes beyond a pu-erh, yerba mate, OR a chai. Also, eveything here is organic! You’d have to be a billionaire to order all the amazing teas out there, but this is one going on the shopping list. I can’t wait to try more from Zen Tea. The site is hard to find in a search, so here you go: zentealife.com thank you Zen Tea for supplying the samples!

That sounds like a ‘you had to be there’ tea. Really amazing combo, how did the color of the cup turn out though after steeping? Mate is very, very green if it wants to and mixed up with the other two..now that’s a conundrum. wow.

tea-sipper

I almost mentioned the steep color but didn’t. It is a deep deep brown color, probably more like a black tea! You should ask zentealife.com for a sample. I think I read they were going to be giving out a ton of samples. That is how I tried this one.

Tempting!

Thank you Zen Tea for this sample! I followed the instructions on the description here to make this chai on the stove with milk and water. I did enjoy preparing this one. Sometimes it’s fun to do something a little different with tea. It smelt very good cooking. Definitely spicy like chai, but also chocolately. It reminded me of making hot chocolate on the stove. The color is even a nice chocolate brown. Watching all the different bits swiriling about in the simmering water is fun too. It’s like some chocolate chai tea soup!

I’m so anxious waiting for it to cool it looks so creamy and delicious!! When I was a big coffee drinker, I used to order chai lattes a lot, but this completely blows those out of the water just on appearance/smell alone.

It tastes good, but it’s not as strong as I’d hoped it would be. I like my chais to be very spicy and distinctive. This tastes more chocolatey than chai to me. I shouldn’t be too surprised because the description does say mellow, but since I used 2 TBSP per 2 cups of liquid (which boiled down to about 1 1/2 cups) the mellow flavor is a little disappointing. That’s not to say it’s bad, I just want a little more spice.

The chocolate is very plesant though and I do like that this chai has mate in it. Okay whoa, I added a little sugar halfway through the cup and it completely changed the flavor! I’m actually getting more of that spice I was looking for now. If you aren’t enjoying this cup as much as you’d hoped, I recommend adding a little sugar even if you’re like me and don’t usually take any in your tea. Mmmm…there’s that spice I was looking for =)

I’m getting more coconut and vanilla now too..this could be an interesting hot cocoa replacement in the winter. I have just enough to make this tea the usual way so we’ll see how the flavor changes then. For now, this is pretty good.

Thank you to Zen Tea for sending this to me! It smells so good! I’ve never had a chai with coconut in it. I was also excited that it was pu-erh mixed with yerba mate!
For some reason when I try teas with coconut and chocolate they taste like plastic to me :[ and it’s ALL teas with chocolate and coconut. But I do know it’s just my taste buds because everyone I pass those teas on to LOVE them. Curse my taste buds :[
I’m getting a little bit of that with this tea but the chai makes it drinkable. I’m getting more of a chocolate chai with the weird coconut flavor after. It is a wonderful tea and I’m so happy I got to try it! But I give up on chocolate, coconut teas :[ And I’m still mad at my taste buds…

Overboard TTB

I am really enjoying my cup of this tea! It has an interesting depth of flavor with the pu’erh and the yerba mate with the chai being light but flavorful.

I’m not really sure why it is considered a chai since it doesn’t have the spice I would expect. It has long pepper and cardamom but no cinnamon, cloves, etc. Even though it’s not necessarily a chai it is lovely.

The cocoa, vanilla and coconut blend nicely. And I love almost any yerba mate so this makes a wonderful, invigorating cuppa.

Flavors: Cacao, Cardamom, Coconut, Dandelion, Pepper, Vanilla

I put “energizing chair” in the search when trying to look this tea up. LOL.

I had this tea last weekend as well. One of my new Zen tea additions, just a sample size though. The description didn’t sound too exciting to me, but I thought it would be worth trying anyway.

I was pleasantly surprised by deep chocolate notes I was getting from it. Slightly spicy dark chocolate drink. The mate in the mix is not too obtrusive, although it does pop out its head more as the cup cools down. I don’t know if it was energizing though, I am always energized enough because, thank god, most of the time I work in accordance with my very own circadian rhythm where I go to sleep very late at night and get up very late morning :D

But yeah, I am looking forward to trying this tea again, although I can see that it’s probably not going to be my very favorite.

There are days I could use an energizing chair….although I guess that depends on how the chair energizes. =D

LOL. That’s what I was wondering!

Hmm. I steeped this like a normal tea and I think that was a mistake.

It’s not good like this. Tastes like dirt and mate. With a little spice on the side. And it’s making my tongue numb.

:/

I hoped I’d like this, but it’s a no for me.

Thank you for the sample, Veronica. I do appreciate it! This is definitely one I was looking at purchasing.

I hate it when my chais taste like dirt! I wonder what causes that.

OMGsrsly

This one had mate, which generally doesn’t taste good to me. :/
