From Yunnan Sourcing

Entirely wild arbor tea leaves from Gelanghe area of Menghai. 60 year old tea trees and bushes spring 2014 harvest tea expertly fermented in Menghai area tea factory. Although this tea is not very tippy, it’s very potent and flavorful. There is a thickness to the tea soup and a pungent mouth-watering impact after several infusions.

357 grams per cake (7 cakes per bamboo leaf tong)

Sometimes you just got to get your funk on. This is one of those teas that I find has good tasting fermentation funk, I really enjoyed it. It is a burly one, kind of in your face. It is very strong and simple, quite dark and thick and just a little sweet. As Alan said, it is strong with fermentation flavor being so new, but I think this is going to be a very good tea after it settles down. There is no bitterness at all, and a real smoothness underneath that is undeniable. I think the strong smooth character might very well take over after a time.

Update 2 years later: this is turning out just like I had hoped. The funk is going, though not yet completely gone. It is a burly highly fermented dark chewy brew. Very thick, bittersweet, and espresso like. This is a hidden gem of a shu.

The first thing I noticed about this was the fermentation flavor, it was thick with it. It was also sweet and relatively tasty. This is definitely a good puerh but needs some aging to mellow out. I put it through eight steeps and there was fermentation flavor even in the eighth steep.

I brewed this eight times in a 120ml gaiwan with 10g leaf and boiling water. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, and 30 sec.

Out of curiosity, I’ve never had a tea from the current year! Is it drinkable or its like a over smoked tea where it mask everything?

AllanK

It’s drinkable but the fermentation flavor is powerful. Those with an aversion to fermentation flavor best avoid this one.

Cool thanks :)
