Not the most exciting tea, but it is well balanced and one you can count on. It tastes mostly sweet and woody with a pencil shaving note. The aroma has notes of caramel and chicken mcnuggets before the rinse and of lamb, cocoa, and lentils afterwards. However, what really differentiates it from similarly simple black teas is its smooth and creamy mouthfeel which is very nice.

Thank you for saying “pencil shaving” in your note. I taste this in tea and black cumin, which is nigella sativa. Is it cedar wood?

This is a typical tea from East Africa, the only differentiating trait is its dry leaf appearance: the leaves are small and twisty, which reminded me of some Chinese reds like Keemuns.

Everything else is rather typical: not much of wet or dry leaf smell besides vague maltiness. The taste is robust but not rough: malt,bread, clear astringency. It is pretty much Lipton but how Lipton would taste if it prioritized taste and storage as much as cost-efficiency.

It takes milk and sugar well and if one craves for that traditional English tea experience this is the tea that would suffice. On the other hand, this tea offers nothing original and interesting, so it would probably disappoint more adventurous tea drinkers.

It’s hearty and bracing. I got it as a “mystery tea” and am happy with the flavor. It’s a bit more astringent than I often drink, but still has smooth taste overall. It’s got that bready/starchy underlying flavor that I like in a black tea, and has a briskness I associate with most traditional breakfast teas. It won’t be what I reach for when I want a mellow wakeup tea, but is perfect as a hearty pick-me up, or a daily-drinker kind of straightforward tea.
