It wasn’t exactly a surprise, because I knew it was coming, but in my poor-me frame of mind, it was nice to come home to my little goodie box of samples I ordered from Upton. (I guess the surprise was how speedily it got here—props to their customer service.)

Big chunks of apple makes this look good and chewy; smells like fresh produce. After a honkin’ old steep time of eight minutes, the color was so light, I was braced to be disappointed. I braced needlessly. It’s delicate—doesn’t hit you in the face—but is pleasantly, mellowly crisp and fruity. Golden Delicious peel instead of Granny Smiths.

Not sure how well this will take to a second steep, but I’m going to give it an overnight shot—I think this would be great cold.

I have just been looking into Turkish Apple Teas.
I might have to look up this tea, it sounds yummy and perfect for the upcoming autumn season:)

Dylan Oxford

Awww, why poor-you?

Also: thanks. I’ve been trying to figure out the perfect way to get a dried apple ‘base’ for some personal tea blending. Totally hadn’t thought of this amazingly reasonably priced tisane from Upton being a great place to start.

TeaBrat

oooh, this sounds kinda nice!

gmathis

Pooh. Lost a whole pity-party comment trying to correct a typo. Maybe I just wasn’t meant to post it ;)

Dylan, I think this would blend nicely, as long as the blend-in isn’t too overwhelming. This has more of a summer-just-off-the-tree feel than a fall cider-and-spice feel to it.

I have not had this in a very long time but I find it really enjoyable. It’s apple juice for grown ups—not sugary, not sticky, not thick—but sweet enough without adulteration and an aftertaste like the aftertaste of fresh apples.

I used a lot of the mix, about 2 teaspoons per 250ml of water, which made for a really flavorful drink.

The peanut gallery was persuaded to try it and both gave it a thumbs up, though given the recent track record of “I like it, I don’t like it” I’m not holding my breath on this one.

when it comes to fruit teas, the stronger the better. (for me at least.)

Agreed, Kirk.

boychik

I should get it for my hubby. he likes apple juice and can drink a gallon if i dont stop him. much better alternative

__Morgana__

boychick, yes, this is a zero calorie drink according to the label, which I find really hard to believe given the taste—but I’ll go with it!

Apple pieces make for a delicious cup of herbal tea. I use this at bedtime, very refreshing. Tart but not too sweet.

With something like this, why not just drink apple juice? Enlighten me w/ your theory:)

threewhales

This was one of the first teas I bought. I wanted something without caffeine that I would actually drink. I don’t like apple juice, but I like this. Now, am I going to reorder? Probably not. My tastes are beginning to change away from herbals to blacks and oolongs.

Cofftea

Ah the cycle of the tongue:) I think all tea drinkers do that.:)

__Morgana__

Calories. :-) For me, anyway. No calories in the tea, mucho mucho calories in even unsweetened apple juice. Oh how I love seeing that little 0 on the nutritional information!

Cofftea

Morgana I definitely agree w/ you for teas like chocolates and caramels, but remember there’s more health benefits (fruit wise at least) in the apple juice as well.

I had a big cup of this tonight as I’m trying to once again cut back on the caffeine before bed. It was okay, but not as good as I remembered. The flavor is quite one-note so I think I have to really be in the mood for this tea. Slight ratings decrease because it just didn’t meet my expectations this time around.

I made the first cup in the Zarafina, so I’m not sure how long it brewed for. It was very light and tasted slightly of apples. Okay, but mildly disappointing. I’ll probably try in the triniTEA next time so I can make sure it gets the full recommended 8 minutes to brew.

This tea smelled great, before steeping and after the 8 min. steep time, the taste was stronger than the color would infer. Great w/o sweetener and with honey it’s delicious.
