A review of China Oolong Tea by Twinnings

Company: Twinnings
Tea Name: China Oolong
Tea Type/Varietal: oolong
Region: China
Steeping Vessel/Amt Leaf: tea bag/ cup
Liquor Color: light amber red
Leaf Characteristic:

Steeping:

1st Steeping:
Water Temp: 200
Time: 5 minutes

A cup of oolong tea is what I aiming for today. I take one tea bag and place this in my tea mug and pour in the already boiled water and let steep for a good five minutes. As the tea’s aroma reaches my nostrils I am reminded of its distinctive flavoring and aroma which is that of roasted and burnt toast like but not strong.

As I sip my tea, it is of the out doors that I am thinking of burnt wood and smoke not filling my eyes for watery eyes but that fleeting smell of something having been burnt.

Overall tasting notes: This is a fine oolong tea from China, expertly blended to deliver that refreshing cup of tea that I have enjoyed. It is refreshing with a delicious taste and aroma.

Classification: Year, and region of production; Product of China

Cup’s characteristic: oolong tea with a fresh roasted like aroma

Liquor color: reddish amber

Taste: is of roast or mildly burnt of burnt toast; taste is distinctive.

This tastes very similar to the generic oolong I got from Capital Teas, which I found weak and flat in flavor. Which probably means Twining’s has great quality tea for bagged tea, or Capital Teas sourced poorly for that oolong. I love oolong, but don’t love this tea. It’s weak tasting, and does not have any subtly to the flavor at all. It’s pretty decent for a bagged oolong, I guess, and it’s definitely better than other bagged oolongs I’ve tried. But with oolong, it’s loose for me all the way.

I recieved a box of various bagged teas for afternoons at work, and this is the first I’m trying. I’ve always been a fan of Twinnings, but I’ve never had anything besides their black and green bagged teas.

The smell reminds me of my favorite nutty oolong, and the color is a nice light brown after steeping. It’s a lot more bitter than I expected, and it’s really not comparable to how loose oolong tastes. Without the weird aftertaste I think it’s a pretty enjoyable tea, though I don’t know if I would go out of my way for it.
