From Trader Nicks Tea Company

Sip aboard a slow boat ride of green tea through the edible greenhouses of tropical fruits, grains, and greens.

Tasting Notes: banana | mango | toasted rice

Welcome to this voyage of discovery and the often-surprising nature of living with the tea. As you learn about the land and the importance of agriculture, you may be wondering, what is in my tea cup? Most teas start with the simple tea plant, the camellia sinensis. These tea plants are even featured on this classic park ride when discussing how Japan uses composted leaves as fertilizer.

To embody this learning experience of a ride, we have blended the perfect green tea. Sip aboard this slow green tea boat and go on a greenhouse tour of edible plants. To start, we mixed a mellow green tea blend using Japanese green tea to showcase the overall green color of this ride. Green tea also has a similar vegetal spring taste like many of the crisp greens grown on site.

Most importantly, we had to bring in the bananas you see on both sides of the boat. After all, it is the most popular fruit in the world! To showcase some of the other tropical plants we also mixed in some sweet mango and guava.

And last but not least, we added toasted rice to represent the mighty grains of agriculture. Toasted rice is most commonly found in a Japanese green tea called genmaicha. It adds a nice nutty flavor and gives the tea a bit more body.

Ingredients: green tea, candied mango, apple, banana flavor, banana chips, guava, beetroot, toasted rice, popped rice, cornflowers, calendula blossoms

Made a cup of this one today and I have mixed feelings about it…

The dry leaf smells really good with very bright notes of sour tropical gummy candies and a hint of banana. Steeped up, it’s quite juicy and bright with an upfront sourness and then a mix of mango and banana flavours that come through quite strongly. I’ve had a bit of a recent obsession with the Sour Banana Gummy Bears from Squish and there was something about this combo that really reminded me of that. I feel like sour banana candy isn’t exactly easy to come by, so I was vibing with the flavour profile.

However then it gets weird. There’s genmaicha in this blend and though it’s not super strong it does give a very distinct nutty/toasty flavour to the finish that feels all wrong with this really sour fruity candy kind of vibe. The finish is also a little funky in the way that tropical fruit is sometimes a bit funky and body-odor like. I did gag at one point because of it, when the tea started cooling and it got more prominent…

So, idk. I feel like I went on a whole roller coaster with this tea and right now I’m in that place where I’m deciding if I need to sit down and take a breather or if I want to hop right back on and ride the wave of adrenaline.

This tastes lightly fruity with a combination of green rooibos and green tea. It’s pleasant, but not special or strong enough. It was refreshing cold!
