From Tong Xin She Teahouse

Whenever you encounter amazing tea, there will always be a feeling that cannot be described by words. Today, I would like to share with you the first rock tea of 2020: Huang Mei Gui, or ‘Yellow Rose’ in English. First of all, I would like to introduce this rock tea: the Yellow Rose tea bush was selected by the Tea Research Institute of Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences by cross breeding two cultivars: Huang Guan Yin and Huang Dan. Yellow Rose is also referred to by its number like many Wuyi rock tea cultivars. In this case it’s number 506. Yellow rose is a symbolic metaphor for the quality of Wuyi rock tea. It is rare for tea to have rose fragrance. Therefore, it is known as ‘yellow rose’. This yellow rose was born in the rocky ‘Danxia’ landform of Wuyi Mountains. Its good environment maintains its pure, natural characteristics of its green leaves. It is this unique growing environment that contributes to its extraordinary quality.
This Yellow Rose tea is roasted once. Slowly roasting over charcoal makes rock tea lively. It is carefully made, the shape of its leaves is fine, even, greenish brown, tightly rolled and bent at the ends.
The yellow rose tea has a special aroma of dry leaves, light rose fragrance, sweet and long, not overbearing, rich in layers, sweet and quiet. When brewed with boiling water, the aroma is released instantly. After three or four infusions honey sweet fragrance and light rose fragrance appear, and then turn into nutty aroma the flavor slowly travels down the throat and lingers in the mouth. It has the lingering charm of rock tea, every sip leaves the lingering fragrance. This is Yellow Rose tea made with effort and diligence. Rock Tea lovers can get a free sample of this tea at my website www.txs-tea.com (limited to 2 bags per tea friend, 8.3g per bag). If you like this Yellow Rose, you can also purchase more of it!

6/90. decent for price, but does not particularly stand out in any way. decent florals on gaiwan lid. Can’t tell if it’s rose-like, but it could definitely pass for it. I was in Portland for a conference this summer and after visiting the rose garden, I can’t identify what’s exactly rose anymore. all the varieties of roses smelled different. Pretty cool, but also lowkey upsetting since rose constructs in perfumery have a somewhat contrived and constricted view generally presenting the same across houses and perfumes. I felt misled! anyway, tea has a roast that’s on the lighter side of medium for my preferences. vegetal, grassy, coconut notes in the middle. can have some bitterness, but doesn’t transform too much and somewhat weak on aftertaste. can’t remember anything else despite having it this morning.
