From The Tea Table

Due to their unique characteristics and delicate aroma, Darjeeling teas, from the mountainous Darjeeling region of India, are often called the “Champagne of Tea.” Unlike teas grown in lower altitudes, they have only four harvest periods: first flush (spring); “in between” (late spring); second flush (summer); and autumnal. Each crop produces a different tasting tea, with the earlier crops tending light and flowery and later crops becoming progressively fuller bodied and fruity. Be careful not to over-steep Darjeelings—they are quite sensitive!

Makaibari Estate is known for both its high quality organics as well as its excellent treatment of employees. Produced by hand rolling and sun-drying, these beautiful leaves brew to a golden amber liquor with fruity sweetness and a clean, nutty taste. Good hot or for iced tea. Use 1 tsp. per cup and infuse for 2 minutes in freshly boiled water.

Hmmm so this is one of my first serious teas… I am not to sure if I am meant for serious teas! I really enjoy strong fun flavors but anyways here goes this review.

The tea when I open it up smells like black tea… I don’t get very many notes off of it at all. It smells good but just like black tea. After the brewing time, the liquor was a very pale gold color, a lot lighter than I thought it would be espicially for a black tea. but it was pretty, the smell of the leaves still overall had just the simple black tea smell but a hint or two of florals notes.

The first sip I was expecting a lot since darjeeling is suppose to be the champagne of teas so I was a bit underwhelmed. To me it tasted like…. black tea. A bit sweet and it had a bit of astringency to it at the end. After it had cooled, I could taste the floral notes that were a bit sweet, almost fruity. The end of the taste would be a hint of nuttiness or fullness, but it was just a the tiniest bit of nuttiness. I really wanted a bit more nuttiness I think. Anyways it was a good tea just was not overwhelmed by how wonderful it was!

I received a new batch after the awful qualities of the first, and it was simply amazing.

Contrasting the stale, flat tea I got before, I was pleasantly surprised. The liquor was this quite amazing, vibrant amber with a fruity, floral aroma. I almost enjoyed looking at it more then I did drinking it.

The tea itself was pretty mellow-bodied and smooth. It tasted vegative, but it was played down by pleasant fruity aftertaste. Overall, it went down great with almost no bitterness.

I’ll definitely be buying this again.
