1910 (The Devotea's Premium English Breakfast, renamed))

Oh Pajama Day!
Feeling grateful for a full day off with Tony, for my sinuses clearing, for a tasty breakfast, & for tea. My lungs & kidneys are still messed up, but improving (I absolutely hate Florida, I’m never going there again), but I’m feeling a lot better otherwise, & I think another week of going to the salt room & drinking straight cranberry juice & I’ll be back to normal.
Meanwhile, I’m grateful to be able to taste things again, especially tea.
This is one of my favorite EBs.

Still a favorite! I enjoyed this one with Gordon Ramsey’s scrambled eggs (hubs found the recipe online and we haven’t had eggs any other way since). Again I added suger and silk milk to this tea and was delighted by hint of malty flavoring I picked up on while drinking it. Best part as it cooled it didn’t get bitter. I’m going to have to order soon as my sample bag is almost empty!!

I am off to Minneapolis today, don’t know how much tea I will be drinking on vacation, but I hope to pop in on Verdant tea and maybe Mandala if I have the time.

This 1910 is still a fabulous breakfast tea and I hope it wakes me up soon because I still need to pack!

A really lovely breakfast blend (man, there are so many!). Does that thing many breakfast blends do where for the very first second it feels deceptively straightforward and familiar, but as the flavors sit and dwell in your mouth nuanced surprises come out. That slow transformation is great because you get the best of both parts—the comfort of familiarity at first and then the interest and complexity in the surprise. It’s deep dark and a little bready, but it also has hints of fruit and even, could I be imagining it, an ever-so-slight floral presence. Very nicely balanced, classic tasting dark heft but also a silkiness and just enough brightness to even things out. I could definitely see drinking this again if I find enough other stuff from The Devotea I like to warrant placing a “real” order.

Old-Fashioned Hot Toddy : A real winter warmer

Ingredients: 1 tbsp honey, 3/4 glass 1910 tea, 60ml shot brandy, 1 slice lemon.

Brew tea and fill a tall glass 3/4 full. Mix in honey. Mix in brandy shots. Add lemon slice and enjoy.

It’s been awhile since I’ve imbibed a good English Breakfast, and this certainly qualifies. The dry leaves smelled like both Assam and Keemun, but I’m not sure Keemun was used due to how light the liquor brewed. On taste, it was smoky, malty, smooth, and somewhat forest-like on the finish. Not quite Petersham excellence, but still up there.

I am more of an Irish Breakfast type, but I do enjoy a good English Breakfast on occasion. And this IS a good English Breakfast. The brewed leaves are an attractive mix of greens and coppers, with a pleasant fruity scent. The liquor is a robust amber shade with excellent clarity; it tastes bright, smooth and a touch rich/fruity. Even brewing for five full minutes doesn’t make it rough or unpleasant. I haven’t tried adding milk or sugar to it – there is really no need – but I can definitely recommend drinking it alongside a piece of toast with honey, for one of the best breakfasts around.

Quite by chance, I met ‘The Devotea" and he gave me samples of all 6 of his teas. So, they might end up being my first six reviews.
So, I’ve had a cup, so I’m sharing my first impressions.
Overall a good tea. I’d have it at home as a kind of default if I’m in a milk-and-sugar mood. It’s got a sweetness that I think comes from what is probably a strong Keemun base.
I think he’s got the old-fashionedness of this one right. It’s exactly as you’d expect, if your expectations were high.
As I also take price into account – and it’s not a cheap tea – I will award it 4 leaves out of five.

Mmmmmm this one is quite good! Terri suggested this one last night, so I picked it as one of he the morning teas today. For some reasoning I’m getting smokey notes, which no one else seems to have. That being said, it IS a bold, delicious cup and I’m happy that I’ve got more. Hahaha
