The Chinese Tea ShopThere’s an Indian shop just up the road from my nest, it sells all sorts of things, from incense, food & spices. I was making a fish curry stew one day and realised I had run out of chillies to taste with.. So off I went to this mystical shop, I got what I needed and on my way to the till, I got distracted by what I’d call a minor exhibition of randomly selected not so interesting tea, but I saw this little box that cost R12 (R7=1$. So you can do the math) anyway, I said why not? Would be exciting to start off with some chai before my indian dish. Returned to my nest and prepared a cup.. Or two.. Maybe three:)? Can’t remember… I do remember the smell of burning curry though. Haha… I was literally obliviously relaxed.. I mean, I was irie.. Frankly,subtle sedation would describe the state I was in… I felt reawakened and energised to cook again and get to some work.. Not a bad choice at all… Recommend it as a ‘take a break’ kind of tea.. Just don’t add sugar or milk.. Yes, it is tea bagged:( but don’t let that discourage you from trying this spicy tea… Not bad at all:)
Father in law brought this back from India Last week. He was looking for real masala but the areas of town where the loose leaf was at was a really bad part of town so he brought this back. It comes in tea bags with dust and fannings which I am not thrilled, and if brewed by itself is strong and bitter.
To fix this I do a traditional half milk and half water brew and sugar. It is fairly nice if you are in a pinch for a cup of masala but it is not my ideal tea. It has a bit of cinnamon but the predominate flavors are cardamon and anise.
In conclusion, if you are in india and cant seem to find a chai wallah then pick this up and brew with milk and sugar and it will do.
