From Teavivre

Origin: Zhangzhou(漳州) in Fujian, China

Ingredients: Hand made into small, rolled up, jade colored leaves

Taste: Sweet of first sip with orchid fragrance, long-last flavor, sweet aftertaste

Brew: Use water at 212ºF (100ºC) and infuse the tea for 1-3 minutes

Health Benefits: Tie Guan Yin tea is the premium form of Chinese Oolong teas. Being lightly fermented, these teas are high amino acids, vitamins, polyphenols and antioxidants. These combine into a tea that reduces cholesterol and helps reduce hardening of the arteries, and so can help reduce risks of heart attacks. The antioxidants it contains can also help guard against some forms of cancer, and also help fight the affects of aging and bacterial infections.

Sipdown, 160. Somewhere along the way I drank the rest of the other sample I had of this but didn’t log it. Ah well.

I went home early today (but still doing work, unfortunately), so I am doing this gongfu while I write. I definitely think I prefer this one western style. The gongfu brewing really brought out the vegetal notes. The first steep was probably 15-20 seconds (no rinse) and tasted like vegetables and sugar, which is kind of an odd combo. Later steeps brought out more of the florals and became increasingly vegetal and less sweet. It was a pretty tasty TGY, but I am getting pickier and pickier lol. If I had to have certified organic (which I don’t really care about), this would be a good pick.

I tried this one the other day but haven’t written a note on it yet. I’m having trouble finding proper words to describe different straight oolongs! I did find this one fruity/floral but also kinda spicy maybe?

I received a small amount of this one from Heather. :)

Oolong #5.

This is the best green oolong I’ve had (So far! I have more on my counter!). It is SO lovely. They say there are orchid notes, but I’m smelling freesias. And maybe some vanilla. The tea tastes very green, a tiny bit minty, and extremely floral. The balance is definitely tipped towards the floral, but it’s just wonderful.

It’s currently out of stock on their website, but I have to say I’d never buy more than a sample. This just isn’t a tea that I could drink every day. It’s extremely lovely to try, and I’ll probably re-visit it in the future.

Thank you so much to Angel at Teavivre for these free samples!

This tea is a very green oolong with lingering buttery notes of fresh spinach and greens. It tastes very fresh and sophisticated.

The second steep at 2 minutes was my favourite steep, with a little bit less vegetal notes and a little more sweetness.

The third steep at 3 minutes is still delicious.

I think I prefer the Anxi TGY or the Monkey King but I would certainly not turn down a cup of this and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Backlog:

A really lovely Iron Goddess. My first infusion was delicate, with notes of flower and a delightful creaminiess. Subsequent infusions became creamier and smoother. Hints of vanilla! Toward the end of my “infusion party” with this Tie Guan Yin, I started to notice a slight acidity to the finish … almost like citrus, but not quite.

A really delightful tea, I love that it’s Organic!

I have tried all Teavivre’s Tie Guan Yin teas and a few from other stores, and this one is my favorite. I have had Tie Guan Yin tea with a stronger aroma than this one, but this tea is very well balanced for my taste. The aroma doesn’t overpower the teas other characteristics so you get more than just orchid flavor. The tea is sweet and compared to other Tie Guan Yin teas that I have tried, more subtle.
