A farmer needs to work seven days, just to produce about 1.5 kg of this artisan tea, picking only the most-tender leaves from large-leaf tea trees in Simao, Yunnan. Afterwards, each ring is carefully hand-rolled piece by piece, requiring patience and mastery of advanced tea processing skills. A pure organic and luxury green tea.

Sorry, but this tea is not for me. I didn’t know what to expect (I just grabbed this cause it was a green) and was shocked to taste strong smoke. I do not care for smoky teas unfortunately. I gave the rest to the husband but it wasn’t for him either. At least it was just a sample though!

The box has landed! I happened to have today off, so I’m enjoying tapping into the box and sifting through the many, many goodies to see what I want to try/sample. There’s a LOT to go through!
I’m surprised this one caught my eye; I’m not big into green tea but I think the very unique shape of the tea leaf really intrigued me. The description says that each little curl/ring is done by hand which is just crazy to me. Can you imagine being the person who has to curl the leaves? They’re just so petite and charming. I mean, certainly not the craziest shaped tea leaf I’ve ever seen but just so beautiful none the less.
I got two infusions out of this; I feel like a third would have been possible but there are just so many other teas to try. With the first infusion, I was a little taken aback by how smoky this tasted. Like, it’s really smoky. There are other nice notes too: it’s vegetal and has a bit of a green pepper note as well as a kind of butteryness. The finish is also a little nutty. Second infusion was much more smoke and nuttyness.
Definitely liked this one! Wish I’d had a camera to take pictures of the little rings as they unfurled; it was hella pretty.

This stuff is beautiful when it unfurls, and the liquor is a delicate pale yellow.
However, it’s got some of that same smoky, bitter – almost chemical – quality I noticed in Teasenz’s Yunnan Bi Luo Chun. I bet this would be quite interesting as a black tea, as I find smoky goes better with black than it does with green.
Kind of undecided on this one.

This tea is fun to watch as it unfurls. The dry leaf is really beautiful. Soft, fluffy leaves that have been scrolled into little rings. So meticulous. Each one is a work of art.
Sweet and delicately fragrant. Light vegetal notes, notes of butter and nut and flower. No bitterness, no grassy taste, and there’s very little astringency. A really, really enjoyable tea.
