From Teapigs

It may be chilly and grey outside but this gingery, lemony brew will sweep you away to a summer’s day – homemade lemonade, traditional ginger beer, croquet and morris dancers (ok perhaps a step too far). There is no match for the ginger kick and refreshing lemon in this all-natural infusion.

My dad loves this tea, so there’s been a box in the house almost constantly for a good few years now. Surprisingly, I have never tried one, or never that I recall. High time to put that right.

The dry leaves smell predominantly of root ginger, with the soft, hay-like sweetness of the lemongrass emerging in the background. There’s quite a kick of ginger — the kind that tickles your nose if you inhale too deeply. The lemongrass pieces look to be chopped — they’re a lot shorter than the leaves in Teapigs’ Pure Lemongrass — but they’re by no means dust. The ginger pieces are also indetifiable, with the overall proportion looking to be about 50:50. Probably just right, then!

I’ve been missing out. Brewed, the lemongrass comes through a lot more in the scent. To taste, it’s a lot sweeter than I was expecting, and quite complex. The lemongrass is the first thing I can detectl sweet, slightly citrusy. Then comes the tingling spiciness of the ginger, which develops into a lingering warmth in the the aftertaste.

This tea claims to be the perfect British summer drink. From what I’ve tasted, I guess it probably could be. It reminds me of lemonade and ginger beer, things I associate with summer, and that are also making me desperate to try this iced. It’s nice hot, but I can just imagine it working even better cold. Definetly one to revisit!

Bleurgh. I have a stinking cold just as I’m spending the weekend at a friend’s hen party- typical! This is just what I needed to perk me up before I venture out. Not too much ginger & a good citrusy kick to drag me into the land of the living!

Perfectly balanced; the absence of artificial flavours makes a cup that is so natural and pleasant, filled with gentle but satisfying lemony notes and a slight ginger “tickle” that makes the difference.

The liquorice root, wich I usually can’t stand, remains in the background and does not disturb at all.

This is a perfectly good tea that just doesn’t work for my personal tastes. If you like a lemon ginger, I do think you should try this!

The scent reminds me of my early tea days, when I assumed that boxes in the grocery store aisle were the only options and I just took anything that said it had lemon.
It’s a simple tea, well-balanced with both lemon and ginger, though both the lemongrass and ginger are strong. I see a lot of positives in this tea, but I just don’t care to have a cup of lemon/ginger in general, so my rating is low.

This is really the best kind of tea. It has only four, natural ingredients. It’s naturally caffeine-free. Since it’s herbal, it’s very forgiving in terms of steep time. The flavours are fantastically well balanced and needn’t be improved with additives. As it cools, the ginger actually intensifies a bit, which is wonderful.

I really don’t know where the flavour is coming from, given that it’s just ginger, lemon, lemongrass, and liquorice, but somehow the sum of its parts tastes like a fruit cereal—Trix or Fruity Pebbles, I don’t remember which—sprinkled with ginger. It’s super weird, makes me laugh, and totally works.

I should mention also that you might be thinking, it’s lemon and ginger, how special can it be? But I’ve never tasted a lemon and ginger blend that tastes like this. It’s worth a try.

Lemon ginger teas are usually pretty boring to me because I’d prefer to drink straight ginger tea. This one tastes better than most actually. Ginger is the main flavor. I’m not getting much lemon, which is fine. It’s not very spicy, but it’s not bad.

Nothing particularly wrong or off putting about this, but just not my cup of tea, so to speak. Not much flavor. Didn’t particularly do anything for me.

Sipdown! 31/365

This tea was unlabeled in a baggie, but since it was a teabag and said “Teapigs”, and clearly looked like a lemon/ginger herbal, it was easy to find. So thanks MissB for this sample! It was pretty much exactly what one would expect from a tea with this name. Ginger and lemon (in the form of lemongrass). It’s not super strong, but I don’t think I’d want it to be, unless I was sick. Not my favourite, as I really prefer drinking actual tea, but at least it didn’t have mint!

Sips By Sipdown!

Been drinking this after dinner this week. I really appreciate lemony herbals these days, especially on chilly nights. I hope my next Sips by box has something caffeine free in it. They’ve been my main supplier of post-work teas lately.

I really like this tisane. I enjoyed it after dinner tonight, tastes refreshing. I read the reviews and there was lots of talk about iced, I bet this is amazing as iced tea in the summer.
