From teakruthi

Pure Ceylon Black tea (BP1)

Loose leaf · From Ruhuna (a.k.a. Southern or Matara) region · Good for Iced tea

This low grown full-bodied blend was hand-plucked from the shade of the Sinharaja Rainforest in Sri Lanka. Made from the highest quality leaves, Rainforest Indulgence offers a unique flavour. Rather than hand-rolling to bruise the leaf and introduce oxidation, this tea was produced by a modern mechanical process that instead tears the leaf.Read more

Hate to say it but this would be better suited for the British drinkers, who like a strong cup with milk/sugar. Due to the tiny size of the leaf it infuses very quickly. A tricky on to brew if not for milk. The astringent qualities come out so quickly. Next time less leaf. If you can make it past the astringency you’ll find it has a fresh feeling on your palate. Filled with some malty and dark woodsy notes of mahogany.

a new straigh tea! woot! Pulled this one out to try this morning but glad i went with my gut on the brewing parameters. I find i rarely want a CTC to be brewed for longer than 2-2.5 mins. Especially since i don’t add anything to my teas. If i was adding honey/milk/sugar or something like that, i’d brew it stronger. This was a pleasant cup for sure. because its a CTC i don’t feel the need to pick up more of it, but if i needed to flesh out an order with this company i could add this one. It does have me curious about their other offerings, so glad there’s a few other teas in the sample bag from variaTEA

Thank you teakruthi for the sample. I wasn’t sure what to expect from a CTC type tea since I haven’t had a lot of experience with it and the experiences I have had weren’t great. However, this is quite nice. It’s strong and a touch astringent. As I drink, petrichor comes to mind, as well as the idea of wet and dark woods. It’s also a bit malty which provides a nice counterbalance to the other flavours.

Sipdown (1183)!

I am apparently craving sweet teas this morning, with a side of brisk and traditional black tea. I ended up finishing off this CTC with a hearty amount of maple agave – arguably a little bit too much maple agave. It was a good cup though aside from the super prominent sweetness. I liked the really robust and malty black tea with it though; I was getting notes of baked brown bread and walnut with this molasses-y undertone and all of the really complimented the maple notes exquisitely.
