From Tea & Whisk

Experience the enchanting allure of Shanlinxi High Mountain Black Tea, a super-premium offering from Taiwan’s high-altitude Shan Lin Xi region. Unlike the typical oolong teas that this region is famous for, our Shanlinxi Black Tea is a unique and precious brew that unfolds an irreplaceable legend in every cup.

Each sip of this premium black tea reveals a symphony of flavors, starting with the dominating tangy notes of stone fruits like peach and cherry. These are expertly balanced with undercurrents of fresh vanilla and wintergreen, resulting in an expansive liveliness that is a hallmark of Taiwanese teas. As the brew settles, you will notice the charming aroma of honey, which lends a silky smoothness to the taste. This delightful sweetness is complemented by the presence of balsam notes, adding a touch of the exotic to your tea-drinking experience.

The appearance of the tea itself is a visual treat. It is strip-shaped, boasting a deep, lustrous red hue that is a feast for the eyes. Unlike other black teas, it remains light and full of flavor, without any trace of astringency even after a long time of brewing.

What truly sets the Shanlinxi Black Tea apart is its peculiar, singular aroma. Once brewed, it releases a dominant scent of young, sappy wood – almost like the green freshness of a high mountain forest captured in a teacup. Layered within this are elements of wood, musk, honeysuckle, prunes, and spice, creating a sensory journey that is as profound as it is enjoyable.

Whether you’re a seasoned tea connoisseur or a curious newcomer, the Shanlinxi High Mountain Black Tea promises an unforgettable experience. Its well-rounded flavor, exquisite fragrance, and refreshing mineral mouthfeel characteristic of Taiwanese High Mountain Teas make it a delightful choice for any tea lover.

My husband bought me a bunch of tea from this company for Christmas and I think he is finally starting to understand my pickyness. The leaf is sort of boxey smelling. Like you just opened up a cardboard pallet of fresh paper. There are golden trichomes all over the bag. Twisted leaves with stems of varying shades of dark browns and dark olive greens. The inital aroma is filled with relaxing creamy and woody notes. Which were almost promptly ruined by the smell of spray paint wafting in from outside after my husband opened the sliding door. First taste at 30 seconds reveals squash notes and cherry wood. One minute shows more of the same. The mouthfeel is smooth. And now at two minutes, I’m finding so interesting bready notes. The second infusion at one minute isn’t as strong but there are still plenty of notes to keep going. A bit of caramel and cinnamon to round this one out nicely as it steeps for around three minutes.
